Just watch for Cops around Amberley & Cheviot and then from Seddon to Blenheim.

The Sundown rally is happening so there's a safety buffer there, that's a Greta Valley 80 odd Kms north of ChCH.

Don't hit the Turps as the Booze Buses will be out and about north of ChCh.

ChCh, Amberley, Kiakoura, & Blenheim are your only fuel options this time of night

Seriously - if the guy was fangging it so much to lose his licence - then I'd tell him to keep the bike and I'd find a new one.

    D'Dan doesn't have a bank account so he doesn't have a card for those 24hr thing'ys.

Couple of five litre cans on the back sounds the best bet.

Whelp, I've got him at mine now, printing out copious wads of maps (), but fuel will be the biggest obstacle. It's a ZZR1100 with a 21L tank, so I reckon if he fills at Cheviot he'll easily make it. He's got an eftpos card, so as long as there's eftpos at pump at either Cheviot or Kaikoura, he'll be alright. As long as he doesn't ride like he did on the way here!!

This is a cool story! A tale of dedication, one man lost in a strange country and an impossible dream about to come true. The bike turned up on the trailer then?

Yep. I went into town to find him outside one of the internet cafes around the square, having run out of time (again). We barely had time to introduce one another before the car showed up with the bike on a trailer. We decided that I'd follow them back to the guy's place where we'd take care of the paperwork, so off we went. Parked up outside the guy's place, got the bike off the trailer and the car (+ trailer) left, so we parked the bikes in the drive and took care of the paperwork.

For one or two reasons we didn't really want to hang around, so once all was done we mounted up, Dan on his new steed, and decided to head around to mine since it's on the way north from the guy's house anyway. That part went uneventfully. Managed to partly charge his GPS () using one of my USB cords - hopefully that'll serve as a backup - also printed off screeds of maps and instructions should it go pear shaped.

Anyway, after a beverage and more chatter about what to expect on the way north, we mounted up again and headed north, stopped at the Shell in Belfast (the one on the corner of Johns Road) where I gassed up, checked the ZZR but it was pretty much full, and carried on north to where the motorway starts... I pulled off at that stage and waved Dan on his way. So, I hope all goes well for him... if anyone's able to help him out in Wellington, maybe meet him at the ferry and guide him to the way north as well as fuel (and coffee ), I'm sure he'd appreciate it. I'm just glad I was able to play lead to get him safely on SH1 north... finding his way from the guy's house would have been a problem otherwise, you have to know Chch to know the way from there.

Nice to meet you Dan, even if it was only for a couple of hours! Good luck.

Have offered bed, coffee, shower or "Follow Me" via SMS to him so I'm imagining that would be in about 12hrs time roughly. At least Nasty will be up at 0640ish. If not, I'll do the accidental elbow-jab routine and then pretend to be asleep

I'm not gonna go into it online... might be best not to for his sake. I'm quite sure he'll fill you in if you spot him in Welly, though

Excellent. I'm sure he'll check his phone when he stops for a smoke/leak or something. Good on ya - I know from experience yours and Nasty's hospitality is second to none

Anyway I'm off to bed... I'll check back in the morning to see how he's gone.
