Pads? Cycletreads have em for about $45 a set, are you doing front and back or just the rear? They do a 3 for 2 on one of the brands (might be feredo), so if you're doing the fronts then you could get a free rear

Otherwise just do the rears

shingo; will the vtr require us to remove the radiator to get to the front cylinder? might pay to check first incase we need coolant. remember that if it's got shims there's not much we can do if we can't swap them around to get it all right. might have to buy/find some once we know the required sizes and have another arvo to install them.

oh, and find a service/workshop manual before we start. need the valve clearances and diagrams of which bolts are hiding where

The radiator will need to be removed to get at the front cylinder, i've got plenty of coolant so no problems when re-filling is needed. I've had a look in the manual i've got and the valves don't use shims, they have an adjustment screw, so that should make it easier.

How long you reckon it will take to do the valve clearances? I won't be getting to their till after 7:30, so we can leave it till another time if it's gonna take to long.

I'll try get some fork seals and oil tomorrow, cause i really want to change the oil to hopefully improve the suspension on the front end.

I've been meaning to talk to you about talking her for a spin to see how i like the bars. If you're still there when i get there maybe i can take her for a trip to see how i like them.

Don't think I really need to do anything mechanically right now, got a new batt and new rear tyre, been keeping chain serviced, only thing would be oil and filter change but I wanna wait another couple hundy k's for that.

OH! I wanna take my screen off and bend the screen and mirrors frame to straighten it up! Get it all ready for my nice new screen coming from Hong Kong

Rings are a bigger job, i dont have a bore gauge to measure up what your cylinder is like...yet , A search of the net may reveal a good place to get pistons, rings, etc

Anyone an electrics whizz? Steve do you know where to find all those damn earths everyone in my electrics thread is going on about? I get lost and start going crazy staring at the circuit and bike diagrams too long.

Maybe we can pour some beer into Stevo's TL to make it more bio friendly. Yeah I try to remember to bring some bolts for ya. need to start looking for it.

Valve clearance? Takes about 4 hours if you are good and engine needs to be super cool to be done. How many k's has your bike done? Usually valve done around the 45000km mark unless it has been thrash.

Does your front forks have preload and damper adjustments? The only thing new fork oil will do is make it smoother i suppose. If you find the fronts are soft then you can try a heavier fork oil weight. Ask the shop

Should not be too hard to check the wirings after you taken all the fairings and tank off.

Bikes only done 14,000km. I was more interested in doing the valve clearances as a piece of mind sort of thing, not because it was due. I don't know how it was treated in japan and i'm not exactly easy on it myself at times, especially on the open road.

The forks are non-adjustable which is a bit of a pain. I was thinking about using the factory weight oil to see if it made it any better, if i still found it a bit soft i would try some heavier oil.

Why do you need to take the hoses off when you are working on just the throttle cable. You just use a piece of plank to lift the tank at a 45 degree angle and you can remove the air box etc and do some engine work (The original hoses are long enough unless yours have been cut). I dont even remember my fuel hoses have clamps .

Cheers, but last time I did it I managed to rupture one of the hoses under the tank and spilled fuel everywhere.

I have to admit, I am still pretty clueless when it comes to the tank.

I'll try the plank again at Stephens place under some watchful eyes.

Yeah not too keen on taking the front fairing off lol seems a lot of work with the wiring and indicators etc etc! I guess we'll see on Saturday if I cruise in from Karaka?

Haha alrighty then, well I've only got one black can and the clear coat left, but I guess since it's just overtop of paint I can just spray over it as long as I clean it nicely. Unlike my tank which needed a primer too . Good idea lol I'll finally not be riding Rudolph! Bit random about the batt though, do you reckon I could chuck it on a car charger in the morn for like 30mins just to top it up?

EDIT : And does this mean taking the front wheel off? Or trying to tape it all up and just spray blindly lol?!

If the paint is still good you should be able to rough it up with a bit of sand paper and just spray over it. What's the clear coat for? If you clear coat matt black, it won't be matt.
