    Wellington Weather

Got my new KTM 990 the other day, just debating as to whether it goes to Wellington for the ride or I take the KTM 640. Decisions, decisions....
I'm a 990 owner too Jamie and I hate to say it but I think you'd be better off to bring the 640 (oh the luxury of choice eh).

It's been raining quite a bit in the last week and parts of the course that were a breeze 3 weeks ago have suddenly become a lot harder. Several farm sections that were intended for ALL riders have been re-designated 'Challenge' sections. I got around everywhere yesterday in the rain on my half worn TKCs but I think some of the tracks are gonna cut up rough up with 100 odd bikes on them.

The 7 day forecast looks good from Tuesday onwards but I expect the ground will not dry much before Saturday.

Knobbly tyres will be a must.

Hi John, thanks for the info.....
I will put the 640 through its paces, but give the rush of blood and the night before debating whether......
The 990 might win over. Trouble is, there is another coming with us on a 990 and it would be a shame to have him on his own....BUT, wouldn't it be funny if I was to get around no hassle and he got in the poo...lol
If the weather stays dry this coming week I might succumb! One drop of rain down Welly Way and it will be the very capable 640....

Wonder if I can get down there, do the ride and then fill the tank??...lol

    Mark from Te Aroha....

Yep. That is right. I am gearing it up for a good time on the 640....
The ride down will be fun, the 640 is still capable of licence breaking speeds but what I am heading south for?
YES! The CCA! I want enjoy it, ride it and finish it. I don't want to show off a the 990, everyone knows they are a big bike and if I was riding though Russia...SURE, I will take it.
I have the next best thing.....

Are the 'Challenge' sections graded or is it just 'Challenge' section or easy route?

Doing the ride two up will limit me a bit, Had i been running one up i would not think twice about chucking the Dakar at any challenge section...

Wonder how many challenge sections the wife will be happy getting thrown into before she walks and i get to continue by doing all the challenge sections....

Oh yeah sweet!, The dakar will get over that no problems, I may have to take a rope to TOW the missus over with tho...

I guess that would grade as a medium then........

About 50mm, ish... the container it fits into is 65mm wide internally (click clack box)
You have to cut them out yourself to make the roll from A4 sheets so you can trim a bit if it is critical.

Approximately 65mm and 75mm respectively, unless my steel rule shrunk on the boat over here.

(I was bending John's ear for rim-lock fitting advice today and was lucky enough to score my route sheet early.)
