On a Harley you don't have to prop the bike up with your knee, you just let it gracefully scrape its way around the corner...

I think deep down he's a Triumph man. He bought this thing to slow him down. It's done that ok without even trying.

Just why would you bother buying one of these things. When there is some wonderful machinery out there to be had. Also they are far superior to one of these things. And you wouldn't have to pay the $25.000 asking price for the bob.

Sorry, huck, I gotta pipe up now:

I've owned 16 bikes in my life now - from a 200cc VanVan, which, oddly enough I just purchased, over a GSX-R 750 to a (mint) 1950 Triumph Thunderbird. I've owned two Harleys so far.

I like them because I love the engine, it's fun tinkering, one can really customize them with ease and they provide a different kind of riding experience than your standard bike.
As for superiority - that depends on the way you look at it. Also depends on what you're looking for in a bike.

I could afford one. Yes, it's a lot of money, but I don't regret having spent it. And hey - I'll get a lot of it back should I decide to sell it.

So, if you just hang out in the hog section to question people about their decision to buy a Harley, why dontcha hop on your Triumph and take a ride? Since it's so superior and stuff ...

Have you ever owned a Harley? If yes, what model? And if not, have you ever ridden one?

Ya gotta point there, but personally I didn't buy mine to boy race.

Just why would you bother buying one of these things.
It's an EFI 1584cc 6-speed cruiser with the look, the feel, the ride and the style? Perhaps also the sound, the torque, or maybe even just because I love riding it.
But really, the fact that you asked that means you will never get it regardless what you read or hear.

When there is some wonderful machinery out there to be had.
True, but that's a bit subjective, innit? Like saying the Kawasaki motor in your bike is wonderful machinery, whereas Triumph purists would probably argue the opposite.

Also they are far superior to one of these things
Really? Crap. I wish I'd read your post before I bought mine.

And you wouldn't have to pay the $25.000 asking price for the bob.
Well, 24 I paid, but I paid it even though you're correct in that they're overpriced.
I did, because I wanted the Bob.
    Glad I did too.

    Cheers.

Re-reading this earlier post of mine it has occurred to be that I don't know shit about the twin-cam HD's and this is most likely unhelpful shit thats best ignored.

Almost but not quite as useless as Huck Farley's posts on any subject.

Weeellll, when you put fuel in them, turn the key, pull out the choke a bit (for those that have 'em) and push the 'start' button they generally start right up. (mostly) and run kinda OK.
And what else does one need to know??

The most cost-effective way to make em haul arse.

Not to say anyone should try and turn their HD into a race bike, But the EVO's came out of the factory so restricted that very little money and a little know-how can greatly enhance the performance of the bike. (Change the air filter,re jet the carb, drill out the carb casing to allow access to the fuel-mix adjustment,Whack a large punch through the mufflers to allow em to exhale)

I would imagine the twin-cams are also severely choked at both ends, and governed down by a government endorsed ignition?

Yes, twin-cams also come severely choked. Reason being that they need to make the setup compliant with every country they're exporting to. EFI settings are very conservative, the stock exhaust makes it sound like a 250cc. It's even worse with Californian versions, since need to have some kind of catalyst setup by law.

First, one can have the dealer clean out the stock pipes (all kindsa crap in there - butterflies, etc.) or quickly put on slip-ons. A new system is the best of course.
Then throw in a Stage I air filter & a power commander / race fueler and hop on a DynoJet - makes a world of difference in response (powerband) and adds a few HPs. Almost a must for everyone who wants to get to know their Harley motor as it's supposed to work. Stock's terrible.

Ahhh yes now they are coming outa the woodwork. it's about time you lot woke up Didn't think it would take long after posting. Yes yes yes I have ridden a HOG only last year, and it was the most unpleasant ride I have ever experienced. It just about shook the fillings out of my teeth when it started up.

It's just an ego thing with most of you. Those that have woken up and moved on to better things for half the price always say I really don't know why I did that.

My Trumpet with the Kawasaki motor in it will do me. But I don't think the Rocket111 is a Kawasaki. Maybe a John Deere or somthing eh?

Oh yes I mentioned in another thread that for the first time ever, Triumph sold more none Japanese bikes than any other bike builder in Australasia. Beating Harley Davidson and BMW. Not bad for a small bike builder from Hinckley situated in the midlands in Jolly old England old chap..

You dudes keep your HD,s. My Trumpet will do me just fine!! But I nearly owned a HOG once. I bought a ticket in a raffle and was only two of the winning ticket. Phew a lucky break if there was ever one!!

H.D. means hand over your $$$$$'s. No doubt plenty of you have to try to make them to hit the ton. Never mind guys you will come to your senses one of these days. Keep those posts coming in I love em.
    your friendly thorn.

Might I suggest there are certain surgical procedures to remove that chip from your shoulder?

As far as coming out of the woodwork, well, I'm not here to defend HD, I just can't get my head around why anyone would bag anyone elses ride. Takes all osrts I guess.

I've ridden Triumph many times too, and a fine bike they are.
But my bike of choice is a Harley.
Maybe you should just get over it.

    What he sed.

After all, to stoop to HF level all I would have to do is mention Lucas electrics, bits falling off, melted piston, oil leaks like the Torrey Canyon had run aground again etc etc.

Whew, NEARLY bought a Triumph once, was thinking "Triumph or Harley", asked around owners of the two marques and ya know what?

It was the local TRIUMPH owners who said "Buy a Harley, it will be a lot less grief, especially for you living out in the sticks".

    So I bought a Harley.

But would still like a classic style Triumph one day.

    HF doesn't get it.
Also - he doesn't need a Triumph, he could just ride his enormous ego. Environmentally friendly transport - runs on huge volumes of hot air.
