63,000km?

Would You buy a used bike with 63000kms? 4 years old?

Is this like buying a car, i.e. better to have newer high mileage than older low mileage?

The bike is an SV1000 v-twin. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am after a 2nd bike, more sports orientated, and have a budget which probably only gets me a higher mileage bike.

Depends on service history and condition of the bike but yeah. 63K isn't a lot.

Non stop - 24 hours a day - full throttle - refueled on the move.

It's all relative.

If it's had the oil changed once in 63K and been left outside - it's a lot.

If it's been book serviced and cleaned every now and then it isn't a lot.

Well would all depend on the bike /engine/services etc .In the case of an 04 sv1000s ,63k is hardly much to worry about ,the bike is barely idling at open road speeds and the motor itself is fairly under stressed .

Dont know if you saw the thread up a while ago that mentioned a sv1000 with something like 120,000kms ,now id have a look at the trademe ad(if its still on thier) because off the top of my head the seller had mentioned replacing the clutch and a few other possibly costly parts as it reached the 80,000kms mark.

Could give you some things to look for or ask the seller about.

As others have said if the service history is there then no drama, personally my main concern would be the price, you should be able to steal that bike at that mileage

18 months I did 30k on my 250 going to work and back with distances like west auckland to albany. 63k is probably closer to three or more years. of riding most days.

In a year i clocked up over 50k on my 250cc traveling 150kms a day

So 63k in a couple years wouldn't be too hard ,especially on a thou. im getting their with my 600.

I would buy it if it looked/sounded/rode/appeared ok.who cares how many kays, it's not what you do it's the way that you do it.

I wouldn't have a problem if it had the service history. I've had my Triumph from brand new, done 68,000km in 2.5 years and it's going great, not a problem. Well serviced.

FWIW my luvley old Beemer is gonna hit 120,000km very soon and as the mechanic sez its only just run in. That said tho' there are certain bits that will wear out / give trouble at this mileage so being aware of them is useful.

I am sure that the SV owners web site will tell you about the things to watch for in that model. Would be asking about what has been repaired/replaced already and also trying to see how its been treated in general along with a sound service history.
