Mind you Brents ride sounds like it may have a few slippy bits...........
I have been thinking about tyres as I was not entirely happy with the standard front tyre when we went round Lake Waikeramoana last time. I was thinking about putting a TKC (and I know stuff all about tyres for my KTM) on the front. Would that give me a bit more grip, while retaining the standard rear?

In a word 'yes' I think, maybe, woulda thought so, surley it would........

Did this run with Clint & Co in '06 with standard Anakee's and didn't have too much trouble, one VERY close call when not paying attention tho. Tiger new a time too but not down to tyres.

Was thinking of doing the same(TKC on front) as my rear is only 1000k's old but i have not tried this type of combo. And as I've not had knobbys on Tiger before I was wanting to give them a go.

I know they made a hell of a difference to XT I had before Tiger.

Waiting to see what Brent says about his ride before i decide.

Be good to be able to keep up with Mark on 230, not used to getting passed......

I presume the two stroke will be made to ride at the back due to the excessive amount of blue smoke........... (at least then I will be in front of someone!)

I doubt whether access to any paddocks will be available for my ride this time. (probably the clay base will deem them too dodgy, and it will be getting close to lambing).
Clints ride will be a good gauge to my ride, (mainly gravel, with a few short bits of off road like the Kawhia Rd slip/stream crossing).
Whatever tyre you choose, you will ride rings around marks, as he is preoccupied trying to pick up Peacocks, so will not even notice you.

FWIW, the TKC's will remain on the front of fatty, as they provide good stabilty in most adv conditions, wear slowly on the front, and if are ridden sub 140kph, stick well, (but watch them in the wet obviously).

Bugger! we almost made it 5 pages in before somebody started on tyres!

I'm sold on the TKC80 21" front, used up 3 or 4 of 'em now, so I'd say give one a go. I've run one together with an MT90 rear with no problems.

    Cheers

I've got one on the front of the DT - its like someone superglued the front end to the gravel - even works fine for mild trail riding.

Clint - I gather Sunday will be an easyish day?
Have you ever gone down Cheddar Valley from Opotiki (well - more like Kutarere) towards Whakatane? Half way along Wainui Rd is a left turn off into Stanley Rd which joins up to SH2 just east of Taneatua. Just a thought..

Also - are you intending to do all those tasty gravel bits near Rotorua like we did last time - they were awesome....

Finally - if no ones grabbed it can I have that nice comfy double bed by your back door for Sunday night?

    cheers

I seem to recall an orange blur disappearing into the distance (complete with pillion) despite my best endeavors on the 660 up the Wanganui River Road....

Yep, Sunday should be fairly cruisy. Didn't we go through Stanley Road last time? I'm planning to go through there & McIvor Rd etc around the back of Rotoma like last time.

    The double bed is yours!

    Cheers

    Roger that big daddy!

We might have to split up into a couple of groups for the Saturday; those on KTMs & those sleeping on the woolshed floor

    Cheers
