Track Racing

Hey, I own a Hyosung GT250R and am keen to start track racing. Is there a class that you know of to race my bike? If not, where is the best place to start? What bike would I need? I have heard a little about rg150's and other small two strokes.
Also, I am emailing the Victoria Motorcycle Club at the moment, but replies are slow so I thought I would ask here.
Any information would be appreciated! I am very keen to get on the track and have a crack at racing! Cheers

good on ya. before emailing though, check out there website! enter vic club into search engine, not victoria or victoria motorcycle club, VIC CLUB! has all info on there great site.

short answer tho, streetstock class would be good for you. you will get cut to ribbons by the rg150's tho, but fun none the less (cos its all about fun)!! get into it!

The Hyosung will be more compeditive than what a lot of people will say.

It's cheap and fun racing too!

Awesome! Thanks guys! I will get into streetstock asap. I will give it a go, and if I am sick of getting thrashed by screamin' demons (150 2 strokes), then I might have to invest in one! Haha. Thanks again!

I have only just gone faster around manfield on my rg than I could on my GSX250, which is very similar to a hyosuyng.

I'm from Upper Hutt and also race in streetstock so give me a yell if you need anything, I am able to help with advice or whatever.

Ruapuna is a bit further away than Manfeild, but we have regurlarly seen young North Island riders commute down for our Streetstock class.
For the young ones Motorcycling Canterbury offers cheap membership, cheap entry, access to 3 club RG 150's, and training at each meeting. For someone starting out they get 1 on 1 support, on and off track for their first meeting.
Most meetings have a training class, (3 sessions), so, with the Streetstock races as well a new rider can often ride 7 times in a day. Safety, fun and rider development are the priorities.

Hey man! That is awesome! I have ridden a GSX250 and it was similar to the Hyosung. Do you have any contacts or anything to get me going as soon as possible? I would like to be able to race my Hyosung as I can't really afford a new bike (e.g. an rg150) but if I have to buy a different bike for racing, I will do it! I live in Silverstream so I am a 2 minute ride from anywhere in the Upper Hutt area. Cheers!

Hey mate, good to see another biker entering the Streetstock 250s, competitions always good. I 'raced' a Hyosung GT250 (the unfaired non adjustable bastard) for Unbelievable Times (bit of a promo run for his company).

Atleast I think the GT250R has adjustments for preload on the suspension etc From memory the GT250R is Oil Cooled, so you shouldn't have to worry about the coolant side of things.

Not really like they do down south but If you make yourself known around the pit at manfeild the locals will look after you.
I do reccomend getting as many trackdays in as possible because track time is VERY valuable to racing development.

Getting going is easy as you will read on the vic club site, If you want a yarn in person and/or a bit of help and advice in prepping the bike I am happy to help. Im no guru but I can help enough to get ya started.

If you can't afford an RG, can you afford to crash your GT250R?

Some people do race their road bike....BUT (a big but too)...no insurance when racing and what do you do for transport if that's it?
Much better to get a cheap race dedicated POS.

Racing is a lot of fun but it can be expensive, esp if you're a crasher speaking from experience lol!

Would be interesting to see how the Hyo goes compared to the RG's. Get as many spare levers as you can and a couple of spare gear rods never go a mis either
