    Restricted test in Lower Hutt

Went for my Restricted test in Lower Hutt this morning.

An older guy turned up to give me my test. He gave me en earpiece and explained that I should just follow instructions, ride to the conditions, follow road rules and not hold up traffic.

He drove behind me in a car and gave me the instructions through the earpiece, it worked very well that way.

Basically it was just a pootle around Lower Hutt. I did 2 U turns on a wide 2 way street, just riding and going straight into the U turn. If you feel less confident I guess you could pull in to the left, stop there, check for traffic and then take the U turn but the road was wide enough where I was to just go straight into it.

Went through a 70 zone, some roundabouts and then back to the testing station. The tester told me there were "no problems" and that was that, I would get my new license in the mail.

I have now with due ceremony burned my L plate and I am looking forward to my full test in 6 months time!

Who did you book that through, i think it'll be better than Upper hutt, i don't think they use an earpeice and i don't want to be looking in mirrors for the whole ride.

You dont have to - its only for the first part until you realise that the old geezer isnt actually going to indicate you to turn corners... the route is pretty simple and told to you before you head off.

I just booked it through Land Transport NZ, they give you a choice of where you want to take your test.

I also have a shitty memory, but they only tell you a couple of turns at a time (I did mine in aucks but i'm sure it'll be similar) you should be able to remember left -left- right and pull over! (you then get given more instructions)

Congratulations Maki that is great news and it must have been great burning that L plate. That is such a great way of doing it and the instructor sounded great. I will have a drink for you to celebrate.

Got my full licence yesterday! It΄s a piece of cake. Thanks to everyone who congratulated me on my 6F!

Here is a piece of advice if you have not taken your 6f yet. When you get asked about the hazards you saw, remember to mention the car right behind you, the one with the examiner in it!
