That would be your local economic powerhouse that ensures little satelite villages like Alexandra, Clyde and Cromwell have enough money to keep going We also provide the second runway for the picturesque traffic jam that is Queenstown (when the fog rolls in and Qantas can't land!).

    Great place.

Except my Harley, hot-rods and guns would never be allowed.

Great spot if you like to laze around, surf and ogle meter-maids.

You're English. You're not going to cope anywhere other than Auckland, until you turn 40 and mysteriously metamorphose into a sturdy pearls and twinset horse-faced middle aged woman.

Then you will want to move somewhere with a lawn bigger than Somerset and a Rose garden cloned from a bunch of ancient Regency rose bushes, originally from the Duchess of Beaufort's first 16 varieties.

There's some places like that in the Waikato.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

I hate big cities and after living in London for 4 years went slight nuts. I am a country gurl much to Westy cityboy OWNERS dismay. I like open space and although I would love animals don't think that will happen (see above). I don't mind commuting if necessay and really like to be within reasonable distance to skiing, trecking etc etc. I want a slower pace of life but want to be able to enjoy all my hobbies at the same time.

As for being English I bloody hate most of them and that is why I am leaving the UK again. Have never and will never consider myself to be English, I am European 1st and foremost.

Luckily I don't turn 40 for another 5ish years and if I do turn into one of those women I give OWNER written consent to put me out of my and his misery!!
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
    Wish you were here. QWQ

As you get older you will realize that people are more important than places.

If you are young and make friends easily, any place in NZ will suit. If you are older and dont make friends easily, stay where you are. People can be very lonely in the middle of a big city.

You are a biker so you will find many like you on this list so making friends should not be hard anywhere in NZ.

    Good luck.

I lived in the Bay Of Islands for many years, one of the most beautiful and warm places in NZ, but as I enter old age, I shifted to Hamilton to be near relations and friends and I have never regreted it.

I would love to make Nelson my home base when I retire, as from there I can get to anywhere, north island or south island with the min fuss. There is a large biker community in the area, a great starting point for any bike ralley.
If I need to get some casual work for extra cash, there are heaps of Vineyards and orchards around that always need a casual worker.
    Absolutely! Nelson all the way!
I love Chch but there's way too many boy racers and ruggers spoiling it for everyone else now. Alot of very arrogant, ignorant people. Such a shame!
Nelson is so relaxed and easy going and lots of nice roads close by to enjoy.

Ya forgot to mention friendly ! (ok happy works) But the further south ya go the more ppl will acknowledge ya in the street ! Done a few miles and the sth islanders will always stop to say gidday (drag ya off to their place to stay even if there's a mob of ya)

I then looked at various other bits of NZ. I considered Nelson until I saw the house prices. Same as Auckland so the question then was "Can I earn more in Nelson than in Auckland?" answer was not a hope in hell. Since earning half the salary and paying more mortgage would be a dumbarsed move I found myself looking at Timaru, Oamaru and Invercargill. Looked for work in those centres and ended up here.

No regrets. Catlins on my doorstep. Teretonga raceway. Oreti Beach. Remarkables Ski fields 2 hours drive. Bluff oysters. One of the fastest velodrome tracks in the southern hemisphere. I just need to persuade all my Auckland mates to move down here now.
    Brrrrrrrrrrrr

Was wondering who was gonna lock that in ! Lol wise man if i ever seen one !

Don't think it matters what anyone says here, think owners got it sussed ! A hippy should fit right on in at the mt !

Still recon if ya look at the weather we been having last couple of months ! Nelson is the winner for bikers !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !
