They definitely have a lot above 4k
Never ridden one but sat on the back of M1CRO's bike for some laps around Taupo - until then all I had ridden was a ZZR250.
When we reached the back straight he opened it up and my feet flew off the pegs on 2 gear changes -- I closed my eyes the first time - heyy I was a learner on a 250 and had no idea this kind of performance existed..
The second lap though was heaven
Death bed memories those...
Congrats on your bike. Treasure it.
Had a '99 (unrestricted) Busa. I was certainly the limiting factor on that machine. I have ridden many bikes for years, but nothing compares for sheer power and speed as the Busa.
I used to ride it from LA to San Fransisco, approximately 425 miles. I would do it in 4 hours. This included 3 gas stops (~10 minutes) and a 30 minute lunch break. Average speed, about 145 mph. With sprints hitting 180 mph, I would back down. The bike was cruising at about 8-9,000 rpm, barely even breathing hard. The cars and trucks were coming up so fast, it was absolutely amazing. It took me, a very experienced rider, about a month to learn to keep the front wheel down in all gear shifts from 1-3. The only bike I have ever rode that I didn't feel like I needed one more top gear. I, not being a hooligan per se, was able to pop wheelies at 130 mph. Took it to the drag strip, my first time and ran (If I remember correctly) a 114 mph quarter mile, a little over 10 secs. Stock, with tank bag on. They eat rear tires and chains like candy, so be aware. I think I used to get 3-5k miles out of a rear tire.
check out www.labusas.org for other busa riders. Have fun and be safe.
Ride, eat, sleep, repeat!
LOL - Suzukis are retardedAlso all gsxr1000 ,gsx1300r (touring gixxer) & big Bandits have a retarder in the first three gears
A question has occurred to me - where the heck do you get to do 300 in NZ?
i'll start:
A quick squirt on Tamahere Straight
Anywhere on SH1 between Huntly and Auckland.
Anywhere on SH1 between Turangi and Wellington
Anywhere around Ohakune
SH29 Karapiro-Tauranga
SH27 north of Matamata
Anywhere up near Thames
There's a secret stretch on the Coro Loop
SH5 Rotorua-Taupo, or Reporoa
Out the back of Kawerau
Wharepuhunga - the back road to Mangakino
Western Access Rd - Tokoroa to Turangi
It's a very, very long list![]()
I'd recommend not doing that sort of speed on the Northern motorway on a Busa. A "Friend" of mine did it once (a few times?), and once almost got busted. This "friend" now owns a GSXR1000, it has similar RWHP to the old Busa, but it's a heap lighter which makes it more fun. Oh, and the GSXR13 is a really long bike, when the front wheel comes up, it really feels like something is happening...
Its diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; its life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.
Mitch, Enjoy the Busa, I've had my 06 for only a few weeks off the 1200 Bandit. No comparison and my lady enjoys the ride better too ......
Enjoy the Busa, had my '06 only a few weeks ...oh my f wow...and my girl prefers the back seat to the old Bandit 12 I'm on a winner and you are too.
YOu wanted to slow down so you bought a busa.
LOVE IT!!
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Mate you sound like you should have hold onto the TLS as well as bought the Busa. The GSXR1300 are a great bike, but lack the character of the TLS V-twin
I have ridden a Busa comfy ride with tons of grunt. Have a great ride and congratulations on your purchase..
But...Once bitten by the V-twin bug its hard to forget them aye
As far as advice goes for Busa ownership goes, I've only had mine a few weeks but....allen keys on the front fairing and windsheild, though they did'nt come loose I discovered they did'nt mind a tweak tight, every now and then, not a major.
Keep the chain oiled, but use wax and not oil, I'm sure you know the deal with your TL. And the chain does stretch , probably a tad more than you're V-twin so check that one. the Busa is a dream, fat bitch but it goes like stink and draws a crowd
Congrats on getting the Hayabusa! I had a 2006 model for about 6 months and loved it to bits. Unfortunately I'm in the UK for a couple of years so had to sell her.
I'm a big bastard and the 'fat bitch' suited me perfectly. I found it a little deceptive - its so happy cruising around you tend to forget it can boogie. I let it loose for the first time on the curvy west coast stretch of the Coro loop. I quickly learned that the Busa generates a HUGE amount of momentum very, very quickly - something that demands respect.
I also finally realised why a slipper clutch is a good thing to have - a couple of over-excited down-shifts left skidmarks on the road... and in my boxers!
I suggest just opening the throttle wide open and hanging on tight. I remember smiling till my face ached. Just make sure the road is long, empty and cop-free.

You forgot to mention any roads of the South Island...
there are some backcountry roads that are perfect for speeds over 200 at least..
Maronan Rd just outta ashvegas was my fave when I was a hoon...then thee is the Thompsons Track between Methven Ashburton Rd and Rakaia...
Tram Rd was a good one too (but the roadworks along it are no good for the start of it)
The Culverden Straight can be fun too....
