    Holy Smoke....newbie question

    Gidday lads and lasses,
Just taken the new cruiser for a quick blat around the block, nothing too major, 50kph and 4th gear tops.
Trouble is, there is a shed load of fumes coming out the arse of it, not a good look. Its brand new with 6k's on the clock so my stupid question is what do you lovely people think this could be.
I am as mechanically minded as a road squashed possum (but I'm leaning) so any wise words will be apprecaited.
There will be a XXL mince and cheese in it for ya....!!!

Probably just burning off assembly grease and such. But surely, if it's brand new the easy answer is back to the dealer . It's under warranty. "Why is it doing this? Make it stop"

Are you sure its not just the standard 'fog' that comes out of the pipes on a cold day - same stuff that comes out of your breath on a cold day? It will go away after a bit if it is.

    Otherwise most likely as above.

Mind you if it was a Suzuki ...........

    Hi Fatt Max
I'm running a vl250. Clicked over 7000K's on Saturday and I can't say I have had any prob's with Fumes out the back.
Can you not define "FUMES" a little closer.?? Do they smell at? all. Are they Blue like burning oil.? Are they coming out of the exhaust or off the exhaust?
Define ARSE when refering to your bike??
Is it something rubbing on the tyre??? sounds stupid but funnier things have been known to happen??

P.S prefer Steak and Cheese LOL.

I vaguely remember a dealer telling me about plastic being in the exhaust that heats up and seals baffles or some such, but yes, take it back and ask.

I hope you aren't a baker, mentioning roadkill and pies in the same paragraph.
Oh, and cheese should never, ever, ever be anywhere near a good pie, end of.

    Hi Guys,
    Huge thanks for the response.
The fumes are blue, come out of the exhaust and stink, the 'burning grease' theory stacks up a bit but otherwise its all ok. I've noticed no misfiring or starting troubles at all. I'll check with the dealer but thanks heaps for taking the time to help a newbie biker out, really appreciated.
...oh and yes, I am not a baker but know a great bakery in Bucklands Beach that does good old pies on a Sunday.
    Cheers fellas

The good news is that it doesnt matter what it is... its new - and under warranty, so if its something that it shouldnt be, it gets sorted.

Oh and as for it being a Suzuki... YEAH BABY

I see a bit of light smoke of some sort sometimes, I don't know if it does it while riding though. Doesn't seem to be too dependent on the weather or the engine temp, but it seems to have eased off, done 400km now.

Blue smoke is BAD, if it's grease it's more likely to just be a small amount of white smoke. Burning oil can give white smoke too.

Hey guys, thanks again for all your help.
Oil level looks ok, I'll give her a better run at the weekend. Dealer reckons it just needs to be ridden, not flogged or pampered, just given some road time so I shall give that a go.
    Thanks again, be lucky lads......
