The police should be armed. Heavily.
Widespread abuse of a drug that makes users psychotic has changed any previously existing conventions or rules.

I've lived with Smith & Wesson on every blue shirt most of my life. If you are a law abiding citizen it's a good thing.

Know what - I'm happy to see the argument in here. We need to keep passionate about this stuff... it's not good enough. I'm all for absolutley SLAMMING the guys that did this. On drugs, off their faces, drunk, or sober.

I DON'T CARE. They did it - they pay.

We don't know all the facts yet but I suspect a heavily armed presence would have been more likely to tip the bad guys off... who knows how many times this has been done previously - safely.

You expressed your thought .. which I respect .. you also laid out a challenge .. which I feel is irrelevent. I sincerely apologise for the fact you have taken my words out of context Quasi. I should have elaborated on my thoughts so you would have a better understanding of what I ment.

The situation posted by slimjim reiterated my feelings that being a Police Officer is a highly dangerous job .. hence my expression .. You swear to serve .. You risk death. Simple Concept.

agreed, seriously, i'm pretty sure the police doing their job know more about how to do their job than what you lot do, it's like the idiots that say things like- "why do you run a red light/interesection/drive so slow when responding, if I was driving the truck i'd be going way faster....." (and these statments also come from those without even holding a truck licence either!) point is, we don't know any real details, and i'm pretty sure they were acting according to protocol, to have the armed offenders there don't they have to evacuate neighbouring houses? Theres probably a no. of reasons the A.O.S wern't there, but I do think if police were armed people would think twice about fucking with them, after a ride along with Las Vegas P.D, I can tell you first hand, nobody they talked to that night fucked with them, because theyr'e armed to the teeth and can rough you up without the bullshit N.Z puts our poor cops through, their presence commands a lot of respect, especially when you see whats sitting on thier belt, pretty intimidating, N.Z is up there in the crime statistics and certainly not behind in the severity of crimes happening, perhaps we could give them the weapons to defend themselves, matching the crimes taking place for christ sake.A murder pretty much everyday now, I think it just may be the time......!No point dalaying the inevitable and putting our heads in the sand.Would be interesting to see what the cops on here think on the whole carrying guns issue.

Oh yeah, and last but not least, what this thread should really be saying and nothing more, condolences to the family, and his colleagues.

Yeah youre right with that to, and not really wanting to appear prompted but anyway, the news this morning was gut wrenching, no one should go to work to Die, its a sad situation and our family certainly offer our thoughts and wishes to all that where involved.
