Not all 250s are the same size. There are some bigger ones such as the Hyosung GT250R and probably others. Or were you mainly after the bigger ccs as a shortcut?

Bullitt your right not all 250ccs are the same size. I actually used to own a Hyosung GT250r and i had to have the pegs lop sided to actually use the bike properly (the back brake pedal is a really odd height). Having these different heights really through my balance off (but i managed 2 put up with it for 6 or so months).

The dealers are out of the loop on this one. I was asked to fax the list to the dealer i get my bikes from as they had never heard about this before.

Sounds like LTNZ have been a bit sneaky.

Why not just do an approved course and cut restricted to 3 months then by a big cc bike

The difference being - I think riding uninsured is a BAD idea because you can end up damaging peoples stuff and not be in a position to pay. I tell people this. I can see no harm in this at all.

You on the other hand are of the opinion that its OK and have suggested it to several noobs.

Its not that I wish anyones stuff to get damaged - what I was pointing out that should you end up being on the receiving end of your own advise you would be unhappy. And that mr DB is what I would find funny.

Are you saying there is no 250 that would suit you, yet a really low 650 does? Have you looked at bikes between 250-650cc??

A bit of a heads up before this would of been nice from LTNZ, its pretty average performance by them. I know some one who was granted an exemption for an R1 on their learners earlier this year and now i get told no on a 650cc.. doesnt seem right.
Probably all depends on who handles your application.

Re the courses to reduce restricted time - from LTSA website:

There are two approved advanced driving skills courses:
    - Street Talk http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/lic...reet-talk.html
    - Defensive Driving. http://www.aa.co.nz/motoring/licensi...s/default.aspx
If you're under 25, you should remember that to get a time reduction you need to have held your restricted licence for at least six months before you do the course.

You can also get information about courses and course providers by:
    - calling our driver licensing contact centre: 0800 822 422
    - visiting a Land Transport New Zealand driver licensing agent
    - looking in the Yellow pages.

    Wrong.

Completing the defensive driving course will only cut the restricted to three months if you are over 25 years of age. And if you're over 25, it's only six months anyway.

If you're under 25 like me then you have to wait the eighteen months (or twelve months if you do the defensive driving course).

    Seventeen more to go!

Why do you CONSTANTLY tell everyone that you are entitled to you opinion?
Nobody is suggesting that you aren't allowed an opinion we are suggesting that your suggestions are idiotic and potentially harmful.

    Harmful to YOU? How?

If my suggestions aren't harmful to you, and what I do doesn't affect you, then why lambast ME for it?

I say what I think, and it doesnt affect you.

You say what you think, and it doesnt affect me.

    Soo fuck off.

OK - I will put this in little words so someone even as educational subnormal as you can understand it.

ready? OK here we go - and Ill even type it s-l-o-w for you

Your opinion is that riding uninsured is OK - this is harmful for others as when there is an accident the uninsured rider cannot pay for the damage - this has financial (thats a big word for money) impact on insurance premiums as well as the poor buggers who have been hit by said rider.

So your silly short sighted advise does affect others..

now take a deep breath, concentrate real hard (get a friend to help if necessary) and see if you can work it out.

Yeah - thats why you were voted site crybaby - because people disagreeing with you doesn't affect you.

You threatened / promised to fuck off in your first ever thread on KB - why not make good on it.

Because when you, or a newbie rider who has listened to your advice crashes into him with no insurance, he'll be less than impressed.

Speaking of which, I should probably get some insurance.
