Partner and I are Ballroom Dancers - have been for the past fifteen years. One of the best ways to get fit that I have used.....(AND you get your hands on lotsa nice ladies...hurhurhur......)
We are quite serious about it though - we compete (with some success) and train five days a week......I would have to say that of all the sports I have participated in (and there have been quite a few), this has taken the most effort to achieve success in - mostly because you are not just working on your own - you have to work two people together as one...easier said than done in practice.....when in training mode I run about six kilos lighter than when not training.....it does wonders for abdominal strength (ya hafta hold your gut in) as well as leg strength.....fixed my dicky knees with added quad fitness.....can recommend it.....

Are there exercise techniques that you use or recommend to get your body fit for riding?
for us males I recomend 69 position with her on top for neck exercise

Good for over all fitness and for your neck

If you ride enough you will become conditioned to riding - unless your racing, I dont really see the point in specifically exercising for the purpose of every day riding...

Dig the garden over, walk the dog, mow the lawns, push the vacuum cleaner around, clean the bike, wash the outside of the house, hang the laundry out, walk to the shop. Turn the TV off and get off the couch, wander out to the shed and give it a tidy. Dig out that old project you started but never got finished or go and start the one you dream about... There's a tonne of ways to get and stay fit!

ive slowly but surely been turning into a sack of crap lately, mostly due to an arsed based job. i decided last week its time to make an effort to get back into some sort of shape. biggest problem ive got is that i hate walking / running / riding a (push) bike outside. it bores the shit out of me. so i got an indoor trainer thing to bolt my mountain bike up to so i can ride it in front of the tv watching MotoGP dvds. i also have a swiss ball and some weights. you dont need a lot of weight to have a decent workout so you dont need a lot of room to store it all.
if you dont want to go that far just get a swiss ball. you can get them pretty cheap from trademe and they work well. im also kicking it all off next week by doing the lemon detox program for a week to get rid of all the crap in my system.
it seems stupid but its taken 32 years for me to figure out how important my health is.
