Another 'Which Bike?' thread...

Hi Guys,

Depending on work circumstances for the coming year, I am either going to buy a BMW F650GS for a 2-3 month NZ Tour (See other thread in touring bikes section)

OR...

Buy a sports/road bike to get to work and back, which is mainly motorway work from Silverdale out West to Lincoln Road.

I want to get a good bike, solid, good looking, smart, powerful and all the rest etc etc but without going nuts with a flash as bike or something that is more just a real sports bike if you know what I mean. I want to buy a good bike that is reliable etc can get me to work, is fun to ride and good for a weekend ride up north and fun on the roads...

I was looking at some Hyosung GT250R's. Im a tall guy and from what I searched on the forums, these seem good for tall people.
* Anyone here own one and can tell me what kinda speeds they can do comfortably/rev ranges etc
Personally I think they look allright for the money, you can get a late model one for not that much too.

Ive been a Honda guy being from a farming background with Honda farm bikes for as long as I can remember BUT one a long time friend is a big Suzuki fan and I sort of have got that bug.
What about the Suzuki GSX600F Katana's? RF900's? GSX1000's

Anyone else got any good suggestions for bikes along those lines?

My budget is anywhere from 0 - 8500 ideally.

suzuki sv1000 sound's like the bike your after. go take one of them for a spin and see what you think

but comfort wise i thought they were crap, but the noise was great with yoshi cans, the power was ok, and suspension was lacking. they were a cheap bike to start with, but they are good and have that thumpy bike sound to them.

f650 would be great for a new zealand trip, they hold their price, and sell it after ya done, but a good all over bike, especially once ya get off the main road. you dont have to get totally off it, but sometimes ya just might wanna go down a dirt road or a beach when ya touring about.
it also helps with fewer cyclinders ya have, generally the cheaper the gas. and when ya on holiday its a good thing.

rf900 good machines. arent they getting old?
gsx1000 family, rough, raw and unrefined with of potential loads of fun.

look to see what the market is doing, incase ya need to sell again.

but best ya get out there and go for some test rides.

with a new zealand tour ya on the right track with the 650, dual purpose would be the way. i wish i did. there is so much to see which ya can't do from the tarseal payment that only some bikes will allow.

na i have a soft ass, so i changed the seat. made a huge difference.
once the suspension settings changed and the yoshi cans were on, and the TRE and K&N and .....

....... it was fun,

i do miss it though.

yea im pretty content on getting F650 if I do a NZ tour, thats for sure, unless my dream R1200GS comes up somewhere but I doubt it.

Im keen to know what people have to say about the Hyosung GT250R as I have the op to get one dirt cheap through work, like way to good offer to pass up, so if they are pretty sweet road bikes for some fun then I would just go after one of those since its loose change to get one, but I have been keeping my eye on a 700 katana, anyone know much about them?

i heard the hyobags have crap build quality.. apparently lots of problems.

but i've seen a few people who swear by them..

GT250R is not a good / solid / powerful bike. It is dirt cheap because its as good as dirt.

Are you limited to a 250cc bike? seems not if you are considering the F650 as well.

How about something that you can tour as well as do some sporty riding on?

yea I am able to get anything but just that I can get a hyosung for next to nothing so if they were allright I would just get one of those for commuting to work and having a ride on the weekends up state highway 16 but if you people say they are no good, then they must be. tempting as it may seem.

I had thought about a dual sort of purpose bike but really, If I get my new line of work next year, I will have no time for touring so It will be a road bike for sure, mainly to getting to work and also having fun on weekends and hollidays. If I do not get the position next year, then I am off for a tour for 2-3 months like said as Ill give myself a 6-9 month break from work then start looking again towards the end of 2009, probably sell the bike Ive just toured with, then get a roadie.

that bike is for sure 100% better than the Hyosung GT250R!!!!!

my father told me that u get wat u pay! that means that when a bike kosts 6000$ brand new u can expect that its really cheap made and the engine is not that good and powerfull!!

I bought my VTR 250 one month ago and I have to say that its quiet a good bike. If I were u I would look for something that is komortable and sporty to ride and I thing u are better with the GSX600F than a Hyosung GTR250 !!!!
