AMI suck. I had years of trouble free insurance history, then my house got broken into and I lost heaps of gear including tools and stereo gear etc. AMI took 6 months to pay, stuck an investigator on me, and generally made my life hell - then paid out 30 cents in the dollar. What a total bunch of fucktards.
It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.

I have had the opposite experience - have had a largish payout not long after I joined AMI (was with State before that - will never be with them again). AMI was good, fast and paid out fully. I have also had 2 claims this year (both car, other driver at fault) and they were really good at sorting it out. I have also heard from my sister about a couple of claims she made on contents with AMI and she was very impressed.

I am not sure what happened in your case - I don't get how they can pay out 30 cents in the dollar. I would have thought that the investigator would find fraud and you would be charged in court or he wouldn't and they would have to pay you out in full. It sounds like you have had a very different experience to most AMI customers. (I have never had an investigator set on me by any insurance company)

Our contents policy is for full replacement regardless of age - sounds like yours wasn't.

I have had two cars written off through other peoples bad driving.

The first time, the other party had no insurance. I had 7 weeks off work on ACC so 20% of wages lost, insurance excess of $1,000 lost, full year insurance premium of over $1,100 lost. Useless insurance co took ten weeks to pay me out and I had to borrow money to buy a new car in the meantime. All up I was thousands out of pocket. Driver was fined $400 plus court costs - no reparation for me as the cops didn't ask and back then I didn't know there was such a thing. Driver was unemployed and clearly had no money so it was pointless pursuing her.

Second time the other driver was insured and I wasn't injured so none of the above problems.

So it pisses me off that there are so many people that drive/ride around uninsured without a care. I say make 3rd party insurance compulsory. However this wont fix the problem of unlicensed drivers/riders as even compulsory insurance wont cover them.

I couldn't agree more! They've just lost my contents and my other 3 policies with them will follow upon renewal. I have no desire to deal with them again whatsoever!

Gotta have 3rd party, but also a WOF

You can have all the insurance but if you have got a Warrant Im quite sure the Insurance Co wont pay out in any case, not too sure about rego?

If you have 3rd party fire & theft for about $150 then put the remaining $500 ity would cost to go full insurance, in the bank, and over the years it will add up. ie 5years $2500 + interest will cover fall over damage on most bikes.

If you have a bike worth more than about $10K replacement value then I would go with full insurance, but 3rd party is must at least.

    .
    Wrong

The reason you lack a warrant has to contribute to the claim before the insurer can refuse to pay.
No Rego is not a valid reason to decline a claim.
