I don't mind lanesplitting bikes, but when there is hardly any traffic, really do you have to. You get to your destination 30 seconds quicker but annoy pedestrians and other motorists alike,
The reason I still split even if there is one cage at the lights is defensive riding.

Last thing you want to be is the meat in a cage sandwich when the car coming up from behind doesn't notice the bike.

If it pisses cages off then they need to get over it - just like when we ride in the bus lanes it's fully legal. Just do it with respect and don't fly down between the stopped cars to get to the front and it's fine.

Plus, how else are you going to pull a wheelie when the lights go green? No point wearing the black leathers and tinted visor if you're not going to look cool

I'd be impressed if you can tell if they're stopping the last 3m or not from the mirrors and manage to get out of the way in time.

I assume you leave the bike in gear the whole time?

    Why take the risk?

I'll often not bother if there are only two or three cars in the queue, and the light is about to change. But there are two reasons why splitting to the front is still a good idea. One is mentioned below, the risk of being rammed form behind by an Interchangeable Mabel. (mirrors may warn you that it's about to happen, but don't help avoid it).

The second is that I like to get clear of the traffic. I want a little box of clear road around me, I don't want to be trapped in the jam of cages, when some idiot decides to changes lanes on top of me.

It's not really about getting there quicker, odds are you just get to the next red light quicker. But you cna make the trip a safer one by filtering.

If that annoys Boi-racer of Mabel, tough titty (In Mabel's case, tough saggy titty)

(WTF - How come Firefox's spell checker doesn't recognise titty ?)

IS IT FULLY LEGAL FOR ME TO RIDE IN BUS LANES?!?!
I mean, I read the sign that said 'Busses only, and cycles' And thought I'd be a smartass and ride in it, because I thought I was a 'cycle' of sorts too.

Tried the waddling to the front of the cue today, felt goooooood.
Some motherfornicater beeped at me, which explains the hasty ride to the next set.

Today, I hollered 'OI!' (not having one of those newfangled electric horns) and raised a middle finger to two different lady drivers.

    Cyclists are cunts.

Before my wife got on two wheels she hated lane splitters. Boy she got angry about it. Now she splits with the best of them.

My vote goes on the loud pipes as a first equal. Alot of people out there get PO'd about them. Alot make the boys racers seem stealthy.

Interesting edit and thank you for pointing out the blindingly obvious

First on my list is...inconsiderate lane splitting, I live in a small rural town with no rush hour traffic to speak of, I almost NEVER see lane splitting, so yes it is not about what Mom sees every day.

My pick of the bunch is the tosser riders that dont wear good protective gear, I see that far too often, makes me cringe everytime.

Always get suppried when at the end of a ride the people that we passed come up to us an have a yarn, keep expecting to get yelled at but it dosn't happen often.
Scooter riders - not all okay
    lane splitting
bad / failing passes or even close ones they really don't like that
getting blocked by some slow bike at lights - my fathers favorite
passing on the left in town -- certainly when done at speed
pushing cars out of the way to get in front -see this alot
    Tricks
Speeding everywhere told they don't like that regularily
Appearing suddenly with a loud pipe
groups of guys taking over the footpath and coffee shops dressed in gimp suits
Getting a door kicked or a mirror riped off cause they caused a problem

They really don't seem to like when you weave through traffic at a slightly higher speed than them (10Kph) then fall off at a roundabout for some unknown reason. They yell abuse, laugh and say you deserved it About 20 or so cars said this before one guy stopped to help me out. Then he gave me the speech

don't see stopies, monos every day come to CHCH, and ride the Akaroa GP to see high speed one wheel action

One for the list might be riders that sit in the blind spot behind other vehicles. Most cagers I know hate that 'cos the bike suddenly appears from nowhere when overtaking. OTOH most cagers I know may as well drive with their eyes shut anyway.
