Throwing the toys...

Some days...

So, went to see the guys at Takapuna Workshop (behind Barry's Point Panelbeaters) to get a WoF for scoot. Typically the only thing needed was a back tire (they seem to disolve, what's with that??).

Anyhow, riding back along Beach Road, watched an dumb old guy on a side road at a T intersection looking the other way, I slowed to 35 kph, knowing that he was likely to do something dumb, and as I got really close to getting past, he did the inevitable and pulled out at Warp 9...

Did the quick steer and got on the brakes (it's good having a plan). Missed by the smallest of margins, but a miss is a miss!

Did a quick u-turn, and got him to pull over, my intention was pure, I wanted to have a peaceful discussion and warn him to look out for bikes and if he was a dick, I was going to vent...

Old-ish guy, winds down his window, and says "Sorry, didn't see you", and then proceeds to tell me off for speeding, which apparently I was since he couldn't have possibly been at fault... No joke, that's what he said.

A small digression, a tangent of sorts. Have you ever been in a situation where you've been so fucked off that you've want to throw a tantrum like a three year on sugar and food colouring, then beat the fucker into the ground?? Okay, that was me after that comment...

So, started to step off the bike to have a worthwhile and proper discussion about the rights and wrongs of his statement, and then I noticed he had a kid of about 2.5 years old strapped in a kiddie seat behind him.

So, in the end, had to tell him to watch out for bikes without swearing and yelling at him - the last thing I wanted was to have that kid grow up hating bikers... But I'm still really disappointed I didn't get to unload some swearing at him...

Mandatory stand down off the bike for a week after such a close call...

I know what ya mean kidda, SOMETIMES! it's a wonder I haven't imploded by now.

It's a sad fact of life that no one is ever in the wrong, I must have attended a couple of thousand single vehicle accidents in my time and I don't remember a single driver sticking his hand up and going "you know what, I really fucked up there, my fault entirely"

I even had a driver crash into a crash I was dealing with, rubbernecking, and the tosser blamed us for not moving the first accident before he came along, yep he wouldn't have had an accident if he hadn't got an accident to look at! fair enough eh

Nice hold back from toy chucking MBB!

I have actually thrown my toys big time at an accident scene. We were #4 into a nose to tail accident. I had a 7 week old baby in the back of the car. We were not hurt. Got out of the car and literally stormed up to the old fucker that had caused the accident (he was still in his car) and read him the riot act, told him all about his parentage, you name it I said it, he could have killed my little baby you understand. Mother blood is not pretty when riled.

Anyway, finished abusing this old codger and turned back towards the car. OMG is was totalled, only straight panel was the rear passengers door (this a large holden sedan). Well that just added fuel to the fire, so I turned around and gave this poor old bastard another big serve

We ended up in court as the driver that liberaced us did not pay his fine, the old codger was there, he was charged with dangerous driving and careless use (good friggen job, he should have been banned from driving).

Moral of story, avoid rabid Mothers if you have done anything to jepardise the life of her babies

Really? Well my crash was entirely my fault.

The only time it couldn't be your fault is when it was caused by something you never could have prepared for.
If the road was slippery, raining, low visibility, wind, cold tyres etc you should have accounted for that.

Worked in Saudi Arabia for a bit. The locals attitude (supported by the police) was it's never their fault 'cos "if you hadn't been in their country they would not have hit you"

Marvelous innit. At the risk of taking this thread a little off topic, cause it's more about not spitting the dummy than not taking the blame, here's one I went to.

It's a bit graphic so skip it if you don't like this kinda stuff.

Johny mctwat and his mate leave the pub, pissed.Johny's mate is riding along with his head sticking out the sun roof shouting abuse at any one within earshot. Johny drives straight into a rather large Tree at quite fast enough and the car comes to a dead stop, unfortunately his mates head did not.

The conversation as I cut Johny out the wreck went something like this

J; Fucking council
Me; Eh?
J; Fucking council killed my mate, Bastards
Me; How do ya recon that
J; planting a big bastard tree like that close to the road
Me; You've lost me kid
J; Why would they plant a bloody tree like that by the side of the road! any fucker could crash into it.
Me; anybody pissed you mean
J; Fuck off, I crashed into a tree before and I wasn't pissed.
Me: OK, lets get you in the Ambulance.

Coming to a road near you kids, they let these people drive.

I agree with James on this one - they don't give a shit and in most cases never saw you anyway so obviously you were speeding!

I even had a friend not give way to me - I called her on it and apparently I was speeding and running a red light (like fuck) ....... I asked her how she knew this as she had just told me she did not see me!

I wouldn't joke... I was first on the scene of a car hitting a tree nearish clevedon. 1 death (kid), 1 serious injury (determining brain activity), long story short, tree was cut down, barrier erected on side of road.

My own experience. Coming into Pakuranga from motorway, turning left into ti rakau drive (dual left turn) guy in the inside lane doesn't indicate and swings wide into right lane, almost took me out.

Fortunately, the lights at pak highway were red... and he had to stop, so I got off the bike, walked up to the window. Of course, the first thing out of his mouth was, "sorry, didn't see ya mate". I contained the thoughts of hitting him, but calmly said, even if thats the case, you never indicated. If you at least indicate, people have a chance.

Up the pakuranga highway... he changes lane, no indication.

Then I felt like hitting him...

You have never been to one of my crash sites then

I even stood up in court and told the judge I was aware it was all my fault and I had gone into massive debt to make ammends, I think the dear old Judge thought I was taking the piss and hammered me hard, real hard.

Still, I was at fault so who the fuck am I to complain?

Onya for doing the decent thing bud, sorry it stung so much, I'd much rather know a man that's fooked up and admitted it than one o them lying good for nothing never at fault dicks.
