250 (indicated) on a GSX1400 isn't that bad (but can't be done on a K6/K7 without modifying the exhaust, oddly enough). You just sort of hunker down and point the top of your helmet into the wind so that the pressure doesn't push backwards on your neck. Standard aerodynamic tuck, like on a time-trial bicycle.

It's still a fairly... intense experience, though.



(I can sit upright on my 1400 until about 220, but after that the neck strain just gets unpleasant.)

I can remember pushing my old GSX1100EZ on the Canterbury plans. Top speed was only an indicated 205 but even at that speed it felt like my helmet was about ready to lift off.

I'm a little surprised - I've seen 230 indicated on my 650. I backed off coz there were corners with shaded wet patches and it felt wrong. It'll take a little longer to get there than that 1400 I'm sure.

I haven't been on a bike for two weeks, coz I was doing exactly this (pushing hard in the corners) and I stacked it. I have a sore ankle and a sore calf muscle, but I can hobble around without crutches. Lucky? Very very very very lucky. Nasty lesson learned. Bent tank and swingarm, and two broken plastics - thats it.. How lucky? Yup, very.

Three other bikers were "having fun" out there this last week, and now their families are crying. Crying like they never knew they could.

Have fun but be careful out there, your family wants you back.

So yeah awesome video but I found it quite scary. Its almost certainly just me.

Paul wasn't actually pushing anything in that video, though. I won't argue this objectively; I just know from personal experience on the same bike and from riding with him that nothing 'hard out' was filmed there.

Perhaps one of us should put up a trackday video taken on a GSX1400 to show yous fullas what they can really do.

(b) learn to ride your bike in a safe environment.

I prescribe (b), which means MOAR TRACKDAYS.

One without the other might make you think you're safe on a motorcycle... right up until the day you realise that it's not enough.

The 'I'm so safe and responsible' flavour of egotism seen in the folk who would mock the 'trackdays uber alles' camp is all very well and good, right up until they find themselves heading wide in a corner without any ability to turn in further...

Eh? Mine will effortlessly do 203km/hr anywhere except up a steep hill in top gear. I have heard their top speed quoted as 155mph (= 250kph).
