Sheesh guys, all Tom very politely suggested was not to use cuss words in thread titles. That's not exactly an onerous request. Its nothing more than recognising everyone uses KB in different circumstances.
Don't try to be so cool. It doesn't take much IQ to swear - probably room temperature judging by some posts. This forum already has the facility to censor/block adult xxx images so don't pretend to be holy warriors of scatology.
Thankyou. I remembered Sussex etc and knew there was another but couldn't remember what it was. That's the one!
I sent a post to my school teacher God daughter from Brisbane and it got pulled by the school filter because it mentioned "XXXX" It had to be pornographic!
Seriously though I don't open the Rant and Rave section while I'm at work.
Well, not if there's anyone else in the office...
Thanks Winston, well put.
It is interesting to see how many people felt the need to defend the right to swear per say when I was only addressing thread titles. I know it won't stop everyone but thanks to those who have said that they will try and avoid this in future threads.
Cuss words with symbols instead of letters really piss me off. I mean to say, you need to know what the word is for such silliness to have any meaning.
"Daddy, what's F##k mean?
"Sorry, I c*nt hear you."
"Standing on your mother's corpse you told me that you'd wait forever." [Bryan Adams: Summer of 69]
kiwibiker is full of love, an disrespect.

"unnecessary prudishness".
some will shout 'prude' if they feel threatened by others requests or that their rights are restricted. others will weigh up the argument and make a small change to their posts or just carry on in their own sweet way.
either way we are not going to get everyone agreeing and that is a healthy part of KB. By the same token it does not mean we should express our views with total disregard for everyone else.
Linguistic appropriateness. One minute I can be chatting politely with a customer on the phone, the next the junior drops a server on my foot and one let's fly.
Winston is a snob. He committed the cardinal sin of bagging, rather badly, my chosen motorcycle and I will struggle to forgive him for some time.
But if you expect people to conform to your standards of communication, on a forum that has a broad user base from all walks of life and many, many different countries, then I rather think you've logged into the wrong motorcycle forum.
There are a vast array of US based motorcycle forums that are blandly conformist and I think you'd be rather more comfortable on any of them.
In case you didn't notice, the "General Public" appear to have had a gut's full of being told how to behave, if the election result is anything to go by. I was quite serious with my earlier reply. Precious few people have ever shown me any personal consideration and I consider it my mission to return that lack of consideration in spades.
One of the things that continues to keep me interested in motorcycles is the demonstrable fact of their effectiveness as a "Great Leveller". Rider + Motorcycle = Certain Expectations. It doesn't matter if you're a CEO, a Catholic Priest, or (rhymes with) a Banker, you've all got something in common that somehow neatly slips a knife in the ribs of social stratification and allows us to just get on with being people. People having fun. I'm not vaguely sorry that my fun doesn't equal your fun. But I'm not going to demand that you start swearing in your thread titles. That would be silly.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
We are currently going round in circles while various posters get indignant about my take on things. What started as a comment on irritation about swearing in thread titles and has turned into a metaphor for the election results and the arrival of the nanny state on KB. neither were my original intention.
I won't be clearing off to any US sites as I get a great deal from KB. I guess I might be reluctant to post anything other than bland comments in the future.
Being 'bikers' and anti-establishment to some degree I should have expected vigorous debate for daring to suggest that we could cope without swearing in one opening sentence but that was just a bit too optimistic on my part.
bye the way thanks for the tags, they probably brought greater attention to the thread and illustrate my point.
So you're not prepared to debate, just sigh discontentedly and disengage because we won't immediately promise to acquiesce to your request?
You can remove the tags too. Click on "edit tags" on bottom right of the thread.
I'm not indignant either. I'm small-minded, vindictive, and petty. Memory like an elephant too, but there's only room for bad stuff.
