The technological focus on how "advanced" a society is, is peculiarly a Western one. The reality is, we're still no better than the Roman "Empire" who rewrote history to make themselves feel better about destroying better developed civilisations than their own. They had the wheel, but they never beat the Persians who didn't rely on the wheel militarily. They threw unwanted babies on rubbish dumps. They hunted "lesser" humans. They displayed the deaths of other races or empires as "entertainment".

We (people in western nations in the early 21st century) don't do most of that quite as much as the Romans did. The Romans were, even by the standards of the time, remarkably cruel. And very advanced.

Well, Its a giant leap from pointing out their architecture was shit to classing them as lesser people. Take a moron to infer that's what I was saying. It was nothing special, that is all. The world is no better off for the bizarre and unwarranted glorification of maori culture.

Yea, I'm sure no one was ever on the benefit for a genuine reason. A certain person I know got in a bad crash on a Harley and was in ICU for weeks, after which she couldn't get a manual labor job like she always had but due to her injuries couldnt any more and wasn't qualified for desk job. But yea, dirty damn bludgers

I am not related to anyone who manipulated the old Maori people nor did I do that myself so it makes me sick to think that because of that my rights as a New Zealander could be downsized because of people who think like you. I would like to be able to go to the beach when I want with out being charged. After all I have grown up in the same country under the same stars as the maori living today so why should I be any different? if you have a party that says maori's are "born into a cynical world of deprivation, violence and zero hope" then do you ever think they might try improve themselves. its a bit of a fucking joke. if you purposly define yourself based on your ethnicity and not your beleifs your always gonna be discrimintaed against.

second i find it stupidly rich that a party that acheives a paltry 2% of the popular vote gets there 2 seats in parliment that they acheive from the maori electorate, PLUS 3 more. come on now.

im not saying there isn't racism out there, and that there arent difficulties but the current system is a crock of shite being milked like nothing else.

Probably why so many have such a huge chip on their shoulder - it's always being pushed on them that they are not being given the same opportunities as whites. (By their own people and by the PC do-gooder brigade.)

I have heard of iwi helping themselves to peoples pet calves and sheep because they were having a big family gathering and felt it was their right to take their neighbours animals to slaughter (leaving the bits they didn't want in the paddock for them to find). Pretty gross.

As for "Maori Rugby team", "Maori Scholarships", prizegiving nights at High Schools which have awards for "top Maori Student", "top Pacific Island student" I'd be interested to know what kind of reaction there would be if there were awards for "top European student" or "Europeans only" scholarships.
