Implying that fast equals able is twisting my words a little but if we want to go down this road then consider this:

Does Rossi win races because of speed or because of ability?

My answer would be because of the speed produced because of his ability.

I like the social thing, I lead for 2 reasons: 1) No bugger can sort themselves out so I get impatient and go anyway and 2) I don't like passing through a slower pack of riders and leaving first avoids that.

Hmm to quote Tristan on this one its like herding cats, some times worse than others.

I agree, I like to have a catch up at the start too, thats why I get there early. Even if the 'fast guys' ride on a different night you'll then have problems with the 'next fastest' group. I treat it as a social thing and I believe it will naturally split into groups of equal abilitys.

As happens now except some folks seem to over rate their ability's, I dread the day that one of them actually proves that fact

Anyway, to summerise I think there should be more focus on the social aspect and less concern about riders ability, there will always be someone faster and someone slower than any given rider.

Again very valid, for me personally I enjoy the opportunity to shoot the breeze with everyone, get away from my normal life for a night, (I am still working on the pillion to come along). The Wednesday night rides are my social calendar, (god I am actually saying it, I have no social life), and thus would hate to see it split up into 2 nights.

You don't see the faster riders asking the slower ones to ride on a different night do you?

Again a valid point, one I would like to add though is hows about some of those faster riders take a turn at sitting at the back, or mid way and then offering pointers, tips and tricks to the newer guys, simple things, like cornering lines, which I think from memory I once had a chat to Mrs El Stevo about.

Anyhow enough, I am going to try and stay out of the attempts at organising this, I will lend my loud voice at the start but after a few years of being involved in similar things and having done all the work setting up systems etc I have found the best way is to let things evolve naturally, and have folks figure things out for themselves, with a little encouragement in the right direction.

That all said, I wont be here next week, heading to the Burt Munro

I agree with you Steve, and I guess the reason I'm saying the faster group should be the one to change if it was going to occur is more because the Wed is surposed to be a cruize not a race, and as it is sometimes the slow group are arriving just as the fast group are ready to leave a destination. It was just a suggestion and otherwise status quo it is.

Like JM says if the faster group are happy hanging back a bit now and then helping out the slower team and waiting just a bit longer at the destination then its no probs!!

Have a great time! I just want to say how much I have - as a newbie - appreciated all the work you guys and gals have put into the Wed rides - just basics like turning up under all conditions, from the beginning when there must have only be a few (?), until it has become the event that it is now.

Again - thank you Phoenix and Fireliv! And all others who stand up and be heard. I'm not talking for everyone, but I think we all appreciate the time and thought you guys put into this.

I'm not going to get involved as I've always been on some committee or something or other and it's really nice just to turn up and not do anything (although if anyone wants me to open a bank account and start accounting for the money we might make from this ride (membership, club fees etc) let me know (Just kidding).

I come along with a cruisy attitude - don't sweat the small stuff, the most important thing is that we turn up - the meeting in the carpark is just great!

Those of us that want to go off and do our own thing do, and the main group usually attracts the main number of people. There is no way of controlling bikers - to my understanding we are a group of individuals and as soon as someone starts telling someone else what to do there will be a mutiny.

I'm glad that when I first turned up people told me over and over again that I was responsible for riding within my own ability. In the beginning I felt guilty about holding others up (through their choice), but now I feel really comfortable going at my own snail pace now (faster on the straights now I have the Bonnie), and ok about turning up last or taking a shorter route. I haven't met many of the faster riders (elusive beast that they are!) which indicates that we are here mostly because we share the love of riding. There are no other hidden agendas, and that makes me for one, feel safe.

I don't want to see this split either. It's awesome to sse such a variety of bikes and bikers every week. One big purpose of these rides is so that the less experienced of us can learn from the more experienced. The trouble is we're not really getting alot of that because alot of the more experienced guys are already in duvaucelles when the rest of us are halfway there. This has been touched on and maybe it's something we need to look at.

The other purpose of these rides is the social aspect and that is awesome. I feel that would be hurt if we split the group.

We just need a bit more organisation when we're at the carpark to make sure everyone knows where they're going.

I know that cats like milk, jellimeat and catnip. Somehow I don't think those will work but if:
Milk = cold beverege
Jellimeat = hot "people" food
Catnip = Some incentive, maybe we could get a local bike shop or even the pub we end up going go too to sponsor some spot prizes drawn at the destination (even just a discount voucher) - might help get people enthused about going to the one place.

Sounds like a recipe for success, based on the cat theorem of course

We had heaps of "New" Riders (people who were first timers to a wed ride) on wed. But you dont have to be a complete Newbie to need advice from others. Everyone has something to learn

Good to see another rider from the better side of the Waimak.

Each ride I have been on this year has had different riders, last Wednesday was the most diverse so far. All up I reckon we would be pushing close to 80 unique individuals, naturally some being more unique than others....

I cant make it on most Wednesdays, Thursdays would suit me better because of work, but at the end of the day I don't really need anyone's approval as to what day I ride & as for fast/slow riders who realy gives a shit, you ride how you ride if you don't like the way someone rides find another way to the meeting place, get out in front or go tail end charlie, if nun of the above suit you "GO HOME"
