riding with your mates is one of lifes pleasures,i enjoy it fully.

i also enjoy riding alone, because i love my bike and enjoy it more when i can ride how the hell i want when the hell i want, and being selfish is best done alone.

if you are missing riding with people, get along to a local organized ride, either a KB one or a club one, whatever.you will soon have a whole lot more riding buddies.

and if all your old mates really are, they will be riding with you again soon enough.

I've noticed a huge reduction in rides, for me sadly the financial squeeze and greater work responsibilities have slowed biking to a crawl........no end to the pain in sight unfortunately!

Even just one at a time would have helped. As it would also had the goat been female. But, that's life. Every time y' get a few mates the buggers up and die down dead, or go off and take up monkery or goat fucking or something of that nature.

One things for sure - it takes a LOT longer to get the stains out of the carpet than it does to explain things to the police... (oh and for the record - there is nothing natural about goat fucking - I know - a goat told me once)

Yep, I can relate. I've moved overseas few times and left mates behind. In time though you'll catch up with like minded people and get riding with people you get on with. Nothing wrong with riding solo in the meantime.

I've been looking for mates heading down to the Munro this year, but to date haven't anyone I know going. So I'll just head down solo and see what happens.

Good post Beyond. I totally hear what you're saying.
Unfortunately the dynamics of tight friendship circles are always changing. Nothing we can do about it.

Look back to your young school days friends, and then high school close friends, which seemed like they were as good as it can possibly get and would last forever..but they don't. Friendships gradually dissolve as peps get jobs, scatter on OE trips, marry etc. Sex and travel, gets you ever time.

You can maintain contact over many years, as I do with some of my original close friendships that were formed back in High School/teens. That's great but out once you live in different towns/countries, get togethers become so rare that they are really casual aquaintances.

I know what you mean though about finding a group where you get on well, and also share a common riding pace (be that what it may). It's a bugger when some move on.
Remember the good times and keep riding, that's the secret!
Happiness is a means of travel, not a destination
