Pulled into Shell this morning and filled up the V-Strom. $25 (Loving the new petrol prices).
I go inside to pay, and *&%& (thats polite for fuck), my cards are missing from my wallet.
See lady at counter and explain that my cards have probably been stolen and I have just noticed.
I offer her $10 (all the cash I had in my wallet), photo id to hold (My drivers licence), a brand new $1100 blackberry bold (because I hate my iphone and had to get something with a decent battery) as collateral as I head back to the house to pick up some cash (all of 20 mins return).
She wont allow it. I offer to leave my Givi box off the bike as well - nope.
She tells me the only option is to call the police. I explain that:
a) I'm leaving them plenty of stuff to show my intent to come back, and
b) I will be back within 20 mins - its not like the cops are going to come out lights and sirens blaring.
How about I offer - I leave all my stuff here, you take my number plate as well - and If I'm not back in 20 mins - call the police then?
No - we have to call the police now and you have to wait. (BTW this is the manager of the branch I am talking to)
I suggest that they call them then, but I'm off, and I will be back and paid before they arrive.
Lady behind me - goes "You folk are being stupid - here let me pay for his petrol."
I object but the Shell staff are lightening quick to get the problem moved to another customer.
Lady turns to me and says "I cannot let someone start the week on a bad note" and despite being soaking wet in my bike gear, gives me a hug and says have a great day!
I had to plead with her to get her address so I can pop around with the $$$ (and some flowers) this evening.
This was some very well dressed mid 40 lady driving a nice new exec 4x4. Now with a really wet jacket from hugging a bloke in dirty old bike gear.
What a sweetheart! She made my day. Now fuck it - I feel obliged to do something nice for someone else .... grrrrr
