Jm, i do point out everytime someone asks me that im not the most experinced rider, far from it, but am help to help in anyway, but i kinda gave offering any help, when i got hammered with ridicule about my riding ability when i did try to help out some other bikers.i know will izzy will be happy to ride at the back and help, so would i, but, we just don't see the point when we get flacked about it.
i will ride at the back next wednesday and see how it goes, but as long as we are left to help out and not attacked about it.

Jmenoic, we all want the same, a enjoyable ride with no incidents and people being able to help each other out.
hopefully we can steer towards that rather than the last couple of wednesdays

Ok folks I am actually that concerned I have already stated I will be making up a first aid kit for the bike in the form of a tank bag, any donations towards its contents would be appreciated, but that is not what this post is about.
I have just gotten off the phone with the nice folks at St Johns discussing a motorcycle specific course for us, we can have a maximum of 18 people attending it will be a 4.5 hour course, and we can either have it on a Saturday morning or one evening, the course cost total is about $835 including, thus if we can get a full 18 it will work out to about $46 each.
They will cover off
CPR
Bleeding
Neck, and Spinal (including helmet removal)
Head immobilisation
Fractures.
To some of you this will be old hat, but so what practice, practice, and more practice cant hurt, neither can training.
I need numbers folks.

Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
Putting the boot in
I think more the point here is that some of the 'faster' (yeah go on... shoot me for saying it!) riders don't wan't to hang back. Thats why they group together and have a ride with each other. I like to meet socially at BK but I have no interest in playing 'riding instructer' to strangers.
I am a strong believer that people should only take advice from someone they know and trust, a lot of advice that gets given comes from people that shouldn't be giving it...
If people are serious about increasing their skills then:
1) go to the track (Tuesdays and Fridays are best)
2) spend more time riding - practice makes perfect
or 3) spend some one on one time with a trusted rider, groups of novices are not the best place to learn.
Another thing that bothers me about this ride is all the focus on new riders and 'forcing ones infinate wisdom' onto them. IT'S NOT THE NEW RIDERS THAT ARE COMING TO GRIEF!
*steps down from soapbox*
[edit] actually I'm gonna stay outta this![]()
A thought from me.
What if we gather those that want to ride in the manner of the original learner friendly concept and hold them off to one side for a separate brief to be held after the fast, intermediates and 'just out for a ride people' have all left.
That should leave a much smaller more manageable and like minded group ready to go with out the confusion of who's who and where the heck did everyone go.
Then do something like buddy those who are left up so that you know who you are following, that the rest of us are are going to the one destination and that the person you are following knows you are there to keep an eye on.
This last group would get away from the car park a good 5 or 10 minutes after the others so will have no one cutting them up and when we arrive at the destination all the queues for food etc will be gone.
The initial meeting at BK will be just as social as ever, the destination will be just as social as ever but the ride for this smaller group should feel much more organised and probably more satisfying for those who'd really like to put the cruise and learner friendly back in to Wednesday. Yes I'd be one of them.

El Stevo mentioned about the track.
Somebody wanna tell me about how it works? I've done some research via google in the past but it hasn't actually explained when the track is open, where it is (ruapuna), or... anything.
Been interested in paying it a visit for a while but yeah, obvious obstacles.
If anyone wants to contribute via PM, profile, or this thread I'd greatly appreciate it. If anyone's keen to go there at the same time that'd be awesome too but not too worried. Cheers.
