Anyone got a gas set I can get access too - my front sprocket nut is too tight and needs the heat treatment. Some munter didn't know the purpose of a lock tab I guess. Probably the same clown that swings off spin-on oil filters until the housing touches the block.

Althought I admire a ruff bastard, just a thought before you go cutting the nut off with a gas axe.

The nut's probably loctited on , needs to be heated to loosen the Loctite.

Welll... that was an epic fail. Mofo won't budge - I've never seen anything like it - normally a bit of heat and a power bar and off comes the nut, but not this mongrel. Next step... maybe try again with more heat and a big fuck off 3/4" rattle gun. Failing that, a new nut and a dremel.

Just be carefull with the gas set
to much heat and you will mealt the back seal
hows about a 4 inch grinder with a cut of wheel
will shag the nut
but at least its off.

Just be careful with the gas set too much heat and you will melt the back seal hows about a 4 inch grinder with a cut of wheel will shag the nut but at least its off.

Final drive seal will be replaced as a matter of course. If it finally comes to the ultimate sacrifice (which it rapidly is) I'll get another nut and dremel/cold chisel it off.

After my initial attempt, I thought it might be, but the relevant section in the genuine workshop manual doesn't mention it as being left handed so I'm now fairly sure it's right handed. Either way, it's had an absolute pounding fairly equally in both directions both on rattle guns and power bars with pipe extensions.

I tried the method suggested in the manual (attached) and just bent the re-bar I was using. I had to grind the tip of the bar down just to get it small enough to get purchase in the hole that's referred to and it bent about 30 deg. at the sprocket.

It's going to get the 3/4" rattle gun treatment ASAP. Then we'll see who's the bitch! Probably still me...

Try a bigger power bar? I have a 2m length of exhaust pipe I use for tough jobs.

Got it off. 3/4" rattle gun courtesy of a mate who works at Firestone in Glenfield - it had been Loctited as predicted. The old sprocket aint pretty!
