Hi all, just noticed today that state highway 58 has got two double yellow lines from paramata roundabout to pauatahanui roundabout.whats up with that!!!

Those bloody road markers come out at night when we are sleeping and just fucked things up!!!

You can still legally pass as long as you don't actually cross the line. You most likely already know that...
That sure does suck. I can't think of a time when I wanted to pass anyone round there while driving a car, You'd need a pretty fast car to pull that off.
It would seem car drivers need more cotton wool.

Ah crap, oh well, just another rule to break on that road.

If you look closely you will see there is a groove cut between the double yellow lines....probably some sort of drainage channel. If you put your front wheel in that groove your bike becomes like a slot car - you can get some really good corner speeds, and just shoot past those cars. But be careful - there is no one standing outside the corners to put you back in the slot if you flip out.

They've done that on shed-loads of roads...

Most guys I know still pass if it's safe to do so...

Mind you, I've seen some dodgey people out there, passing on blind rises etc, so double yellows are a minor (not any less illegal, mind you...).

Yeah, kinda like them doing road repairs... Resealing bits that aren't too bad but leaving corners that are rippled to bits....

They do it to slow traffic down. They (they being Transhit) admit it. Double yellows reduce all traffic to the speed of the slowest geriatric dodderer in his Toyota Corolla.

My big fear with double yellow lines is I'll be passing some cars and the double yellow lines will just appear. And I'll be stuck on the other side of the road until those double yellow lines disappear. Wanting to cross them to comeback but knowing I can't. Up here they're making them in longer and longer stretches. I may never make it back to my side of the road.

Yeah but it tends to get people frustrated, so they do stupid stuff to get by sometimes... Double edged sword.
