I've not been on the receiving end of "discrimination' really myself (or if I have it's never been memorable). One afternoon I went backto my bandit, parked outside the local mall in Manurewa and a group of staunch teenage dudes were hanging around it giving it the look over. I saunter up, helmet in hand and they start to move away. (I must look pretty scary). As my helmet is going on I hear "Auw, a lady rides it!" with appropriate auw, erm I mean awe, in their voices. Most gratifying! Especially as I got called a lady, lol.

I get that too PB. As a teacher aide in a high school, I often get to work with boys who have 'rather challenging behaviour', and not a lot of respect for women.
I go up hugely in their estimation when I mention I ride a Ninja (of course, i don't tell them it is a 500 tourer, rather than a screaming sportsbike tho, can't shatter all their illusions!)

The real problem is there's not enough lady types on bikes and there's too few to share around. Even ladies at all interested in bikes but don't ride are few and far between.

Just ignore the people that give you odd looks, and give those that think "hot damn!" a chance.

Are you allowed to give them the bash by swinging around and hitting them with your helmet?

I haven't noticed any surprised looks or recieved any comments. But then, I may have been too oblivious to notice, having recieved strange looks even before I started riding!

i think it's just their ignorance.a pure lack of understanding.
how many of those same people would laugh at someone with a jetski? or a boat? yet a bike is not only for leisure, but a credible form of transport.not to mention, more friendly on the enviroment.

it's these sort of people that need to learn to think outside the square.the world might just be a better place for it.

It's the same with many things treated as being in the mans domain (which they aren't). Take building for instance. My (ex) mum in law has designed and built her own house. No - she isn't a butch - just bloody intelligent and capable.

My partner is learning to ride and she gets always gets a surprised response. Either one of "that's cool" or one of "really, you ride a bike? (snigger, snigger)". The latter pisses me off she since she's a bloody good rider.

In any case, she shrugs it off... after all, they are the one with the problem and she gets to ride a motorcycle

You just have to ignore the morons... pity the world is full of them.

I vote yes. Just claim they were about to assult you. Only problem is you might damage your helmet on the skull containing their dormant organ.

It doesn't what you do in life there will always be someone who will have an opinion different to yours, or who will judge you for what you do. Hold your head high and live your life so when you look back on it you will have no regrets.

Thats easy... some of them are quite respectful to bikers, others have a grudge from being continually stupid enough to take on bikes in races (and getting beaten well and truly). Even better was when they were trying to prove something to their ladies... I enjoyed those ones even more, and normally tried to mock the guy in the process or something like that.

Re his attitude... if you're not happy, trade up, PLENTY of guys think biker chicks are seriously hot, and there ain't enough to go round.

Its their way of trying to hide their jealousy of you being able to do something they cant, including boy freinds, the sad thing is they will never know what their missing.
