    I agree with BigDave.

    Of course they are dangerous.

They are machines designed to propel the human body at unnatural speeds.

Speeds at which an impact with another static or mobile object is likely to cause serious harm or death.

You can ride as "safely" as you like. You are still riding a dangerous machine in a dangerous environment.

You can be the best rider in the world but it doesn't stop one of the aforementioned "dickheads" killing you accidentally, while on the daily commute.

Yep. And a bike does not put you in a steel cage...

And the ramifications tend to be greater when they are operated poorly.

Has been discussed in much heated style in other threads, looks like this one might head the same way. All comes back to relativity dunnit.

This is like saying a carving knife is dangerous because it's designed to cut muscle. Properly used even falling over with one in your hand won't be a problem.

But what is the probability of this actually happening to any given individual an any given day?

I would help the rest of us understand the full cogency of your ideas better if you explained who you think is a "smarmy cunt" and a "moron".

yes. Sorry 'bout that. My outburst was directed at Katman. Which i would think would be fairly obvious if you read through the thread.

It's impossible to post anything on this site without someone trying to claim a Nobel Prize for spell-checking etc.

Apologies to people offended by said outburst.

Just living in todays society is dangerous enough in itself. If we all worried about motorcycles being dangerous then I guess no of us would own them nor ride them for that matter. Anything with a motor in it is dangerous but if you treat it for what it is and with respect then it only becomes more dangerous thru your lack of respect for it.
Like others have said on here walking across the road can be dangerous, just like rock climbing, skiing, fishing off rocks and so on.
If we all worried about the dangers around us we wouldn't leave our homes and then all live boring and unhappy lives. Who wants that, Not me.

as mentioned - 50,000 check out annually from NZ and we're talking about how many who get it on a bike ? Ooo perhaps 50 top whack (no idea what was the worst total ever was but guess no more than 100 or so)

and if you go back 2 generations they were losing tens of millions (admittedly worldwide, but then it was a smaller place too) via war, influenza, pogroms etc etc etc

maybe we should look on the bright side ?
