So MarkS do you fancy trying to get the Odlins Road "done" either Saturday 17th or Saturday 24th?

Anyone else fancy a crack at Odlins on those dates?
    Cheers, Dave

24th would be better for me - if we get a few bodies (pushers) I would like to take the KLR to the hut - there would be a serious sense of achievement getting that thing through the washouts and steps of the last half of the trail.

    cheers

Cool! Count me in for the 24th then!

I ordered a Ventura Sport Rack for my KLX yesterday so will have something a tad more substantial to strap my tool bag onto (& get a bit more weight out of my backpack!), so hopefully no more retracing for lost kit!
Actually reckon I'll need the Pack Rack for the South Coast ADV - more bloody expense!

Can I come if i promise to put real tyres on?

There's a pair of full knobbies (not road legal but who's looking) that have only done the CCA. Maybe I should have put them on for last Saturday.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Kewl - the more the merrier
a 14 tooth front sprocket and rim locks would help for this stuff as well

knobbies might stop you disappearing into the distance once we get back on the seal - like last Saturday

might have cut down on the amount of duct tape you had to use.....

Can you postpone until Sunday 25th Jan? I'm keen to do the ride but I'm yacht racing on Saturday.
    Cheers

No problem Dave, stick to the 24th.

I have just goggled Karapoti. Ring the Upper Hutt office of Greater Wellington 526 4133 or 0800 496 734 for a permit.

    One more, possibly

    Howdee,

Can anyone provide details/links to the Odlins ride pls..? I might be keen to come along if possible, depends partly whether my F650GS is likely to cope with the terrain.

Mind you having just spent today washing all the mud and cack off from the Yamaha Safari and discovering all the scrathed/cracked plastic and dented chrome underneath the mud.. another off of two might not make too much difference to the (suddenly) old girl..!
If less is more, then how much more would more be..??

Hi Ubernaut, I took my F650 GS Dakar once, there was another dakar and 1150GSA. It's challenging and I guess the terrain varies from time to time but it can be done if not is very fun to try

I'm still waiting for parts to arrive for my bike but if they arrive I would be keen to join

    Cheers,
    Pampa

    some photos here

Oldins rd is a 4wd track that heads north from the summit of the Akatarawa Rd on the Waikanae/Reikorangi side. First half (a climb to the summit ) is rough but presents no real problems. The downhill side that goes to the hut has some nasty washouts which I am quite nervous about (fine on the DT230)
