Anyone do any longish trips on their Triple - is the GEL seat necessary for a 300-400k trip, or is your bum still alive after that sort of distance?
Completely seperate topic, but I'm looking at buying a 2nd hand unit, came in Nov 07 - is there a difference between 08 and 09 models?
AND, why the #$#$#@! are we getting so ripped off for accessories, there is around a 45% premium on Triumph accessories between UK posted prices and NZ...
I've done a couple of 500 km trips. It's okay comfortwise for me at 85 kg but I have noticed it has become slightly worse over time (I think the foam has compressed somewhat).
Triumph accessories are fuggin expensive sad but true. Check out other international suppliers through forums like:

www.street-triple.co.uk/
And try ebay
There were no changes at all between 07 and 08. I am 99% sure the stock 09Street Triple is unchanged also.
You looking at the Black one on the North Shore huh? Wonder why the crazy bastard is flicking it!!!![]()
the longest trip I have done on mine in a day is somewhere round 400km and I found it quite sore on the backside. Other than that wasn't too bad. I guess I will find out at end of the month what long riding is like as I am planning a weeks riding round the North Island.
Hows that fancypants suspension working out for ya short-circuit?
"It would be spiteful, to put jellyfish in a trifle."\m/ o.o \m/
Brilliant plain and simple with no exaggeration. If you have to sell your Granny to do it then you need to...Give that engine and chassis the suspension that Triumph deprived it of!!!
At the front the forks which were sprung way too soft now have no dive on hard braking, and due to the revalving and digressive shim stack are absorbing everything I throw at them. Consequently it is far more assured steering,there is a lot more "feel" when brakes and the snatchyness in the throttle is sorted. I know the R model has the Nissin four pot calipers but the two pots have more than enough bite with the front end suspension sorted.
The Ohlins rear is what you'd expect - the best. Even the missus (parttime pillion/fulltime household bean counter) has to begrudgingly admit it's like a different bike. No more bottoming out, harshhess, lack of wheel contact/traction from the road and no squat when accelerating out of a corner hard. The bike which already did already carve is now so much more assured in corners and feels glued Absolutely planted. My rear end is slightly higher in a more aggressive riding position
I believe that the $2880 on the stock model was the right option rather than going for the R model: I've still got all the mods I did originally, I don't have a naff colour scheme or matt paint to try to maintain and my suspension is top-notch, rebuildable and taylored for me (not merely adequate and adjustable).
I'd like to thank Norm Cobb at Suspension Tech Ellerslie for doing such a fantastic job - starting around midday and working through till 7.30pm that night to have it done same day. He spent several hours with me discussing the various options including considering the upgrade to R model, Daytona front end conversion etc. Answered all my questions and dumbed down it down so as to make it comprehendable to one so mechanically challenged.
So there - do what you need to...sell you Granny, your ass, rob a bank, whatever it takes Gubb. You'll never stop smiling
You know it mate, as soon as the Hyo has sold, I have an appointment.
May come and see ya next week about that screen. Would be handy to have on before the Moto TT.

Thanks for feedback.
I went around to have a look, there was some scratches on gear box casing, the pegs and handlebars were scratched, and right hand side indicator was cracked.
He'd only had it for a few months and had only done about 400k himself.
"So, this bike has never been dropped, fallen over etc?"
"No"
"Looks like someone was pretty sloppy with it"
"Yeah, never been dropped"
(or something like that).
Anyway rang Holeshot to ask if they had any service history on it, and luckily the guy remembered and said the seller had been in sometime before to buy a new indicator lens as it had fallen over in the driveway. Dodgy lying fekker.
It has been sold though...
So, now I'm buying new, and am getting pretty confused about whether to get the standard or the R.
WIll be:
* Day tripping (75%)
* Long trip (20%)
* Track day
So, getting hung up on the suspension/handling differences.
Can someone just tell me what to do!
I can get a new black one now, or wait a month for a R. Don't want the ride to be too stiff for road use, but a lot of people are ugrading their suspension for a reason right?
Do I get the standard, get a bit of experience (I've only been riding for about 13months), and then do an upgrade like Short Circuit - just can't decide, and since no-one has a demo
model R I have no idea what the difference feels like.
