Is my bike a write-off? Place bets here!

After the suspension had a disagreement with a shitty bit of asphalt last week and the bike ended up on top of me (quiet at the back) in a state of disrepair (I'm talking to you, fizbin), it's finally made it to the garage for an insurance assessment. Now, according to the good people at Red Baron, it's going to be a close-run thing on if the insurance spods will repair it or write it off.

So, as I'm bike-less for the moment and suffering from withdrawal (OK, I sniggered), I desire to know what you think. Given the damage, do you the good denizens of KB think that my plucky, suspension-softer-than-cake-in-this-weather Kawasaki ZZR 250 will survive? Damage rundown as follows....

    Right fairing buggered
    front fairing buggered
    left fairing a bit buggered
fairing substructure smashed in on right side
    front forks twisted slightly
front suspension bottoms out during normal road riding

given the bike cost just over $4k, what's the prognosis? Am I doomed to GN ownership, or will the noble Tox rise again?

fairing damage alone will write a bike off. Plastic is apparently more expensive than gold.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

    yeah, it's not cheap!

Maybe I could make a fairing out of corrugated plastic and duct tape?

if i owned it un-insured i'd say it would be back on the road with in a week or 2 at minimal cost, but since you seem to be insured they would definitely write it off, whats 4k to them

Considering the cost of a fairing panel from Kawasaki for your bike I'd say its a write off.

Next time you have a bike that handles that bad, perhaps get it sorted before you end up in the same situation.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to write off bikes - my bike would have been written off recently due to a chap doing nearly $8,000 of damage to it - but I'm still riding it around town quite happily, and it's [almost] completely road-legal still.

The irony being that I was going to get in touch with people about getting the suspension sorted when I binned it. Oh well, you live and learn...
