My Google-foo is stronk. It says that white spirit has an octane rating of about 10. Thats too low. It would pink.
Appaarently one pint per gallon of 95 octane reduces the octane rating to about 85. So 1 quart per gallon (but is that Yank gallons or Imperial?) should take it down to about 75. Which is about right for scrap iron. But it would be a mighty hassle. Kerosene is simpler. Bikes run fine on kerosene. So long as they haven't been spoilt and gotten big ideas. A walnut tree a woman and bike all three, the more you beat them the better they be. Do n't balme me it's folklore. Y' can't argue with folk lore. Kamatua and all that.

It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.
I stopped for fuel today on Onewa Road BP - it's out of 98 too.
Just as well the VFR likes 91, unlike the Froggy French car my wife occasionally drives - it pinks on anything other than 98.
Apparently, they mine the 98 in the desert near Perth, truck it from there to the port, and ship it here in a ship. I think it needs a couple of weeks slopping around in a tanker on the Bass Strait to allow it to ferment propelry or summat.
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
I've got about 100 litres in my tank if anyone wants to make me an offer. Bidding starts at $4 a litre...
So whats the big issue ? Run it on 95 then, the only thing i stay away from is the ethanol mix feul !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"
Bowls can wait !
Interesting - I saw the Kumeu BP was out of it (on one pump anyway) the other day...

Yeah I had a talk to one of the guys in the station and they misplaced a tanker. They said it should all be back to normal today.
Glad some more is on its way. I use BP 98 to extend my tank range to over 400kms. That makes travelling out of hours heaps better. So the East Cape can be done when there is not much traffic for example.
You could always use Laphroaig Quarter Cask...it's probably cheaper...

hmmm read an article in the herald which said tests show that if X amount of fuel from any other brand gets you 100km's distance then the same X amount of fuel from shell will get you 105km's (5% further)
i dont know if 98 would get ou even further but this is just what i read.
interesting really. but my bike runs tikkity boo on 91 so i dont mind.
