it is used by NASA I'm told. They used to give astronauts coffee but found that the side effects from small amounts of amphetamine are less than the side affects from coffee.

However, I'm yet to meet anyone sane and healthy who uses or has used speed on a regular basis, who will recommend that you take it.
I have used it more than once and I suggest that you do all you can to avoid it.
    You say this because?

I actually agree with you but I wonder where your wisdom comes from.

I stayed relatively sane on the stuff, my health stayed reasonably stable but I'd not recommend it to anyone.

maybe I'm different. (Hang on, yes I am different, very....)

Causing injury or death while under the influence of drink or drug (and incapable of proper control of vehicle) [sect 61(2)]

    • Imprisonment for up to 5 years or a fine not exceeding $20,000, or both,
    • AND disqualification for at least 1 year

Used it have you? Know people that have been sucked into the void do you?

Half the problem with drug abuse is ignorance; either the ignorance of the people using the drugs or the fucking no-brain do-gooders who think they have all the answers when the shit hits the fan.

If you have some sensible questions on what P might do to you PM me.

How often does the maximum penalty get handed down though?

I don't disagree with harsher penalties (or even dishing out the existing penalties) but until it happens, nothing will happen, if you get my drift.

I know plenty of truckers, some of whom have fallen off the road. Number one problem? Sleep deprivation. Reason? Corporate expectations.

True but the loss of licence is 1 year minimum. Just food for thought.

BTW - regarding the military use of amphetamine, the US mil use dexamphetamine (come on Eileen), not methamphetamine. However I believe the nazis used meth (including our old mate hitler).

Speed does make the mind sharper and more focused, but also creates anxiety. This anxiety is counter to the philosophy of riding "relaxed".

There is thought that the use of amphetamine is partially responsible for some of the "friendly fire" incidents over the last while. Which is why the US military are evaluating a new drug - midofanil (sp?) which supposedly has the awakening properties without the edginess.

Good golly gosh. I thought P stood for Pilates. Which might actually make you a better rider somehow....

Oh, Peeeeeeeeeeee. I would guess it's effects might be more like alcohol - make you think you're a better rider or think you've got preternatural awareness, like a vampire or something. When in reality your reactions won't be as good as those of an aware rider with a clean system.

Hence my comment re "makes you think you're a better rider".

I've used both speed and P (same thing, different form) whilst riding. In fact, I've been p'd up to the max, on the bourbon and had a smoke whilst riding, fairly fast, late at night with not very good lighting.

    Spot the dork!

I'm not only man enough to point the finger at myself for stupidity but I think also it gives me some authority to tell others why not to do it.

I felt bullet-proof at the time, thought I was in total control etc. I might have been in control, nothing happened, I got home ok didn't I? Faaark. Never again.....

I've also been DIC'd twice, freakin stupid.

The trouble with P is; the first thing that goes out the window is reason. You might, just might, be able to reason with a drunk, and at least they come right in the morning. P users might take days to come right when on a bender. I know. I've been there, spent way too much money on the crap and got into some unnecessary biffo. These days I'm happy to have a few bourbons, leave the machinery parked up and maybe spark up a spliff if there's some about, without any biffo. Apart from a good E there's nothing out there I crave any more. Maybe I'm lucky I don't have an addictive nature.

    Cheers

Like alcohol, many drugs reduce a driver’s ability to have full control of a motor vehicle. Drugs have different and profound effects on a person’s mood and behaviour, depending on the type of drug involved. Some of the effects of illegal drugs are listed below.

Cannabis and heroin –can slow down a person’s reaction time, distort perception of speed and distance, reduce concentration and coordination when driving.

Methamphetamine (speed), ecstasy and cocaine - can lead to over-confidence, rash decision making and risk taking, and tiredness caused by an inability to sleep can affect a driver’s reflexes and concentration.

Hallucinogens –affect hearing and sight as well as the perception of time, distance and movement, and they can make a person sense things that don’t exist.

Multiple drug use - using a combination of drugs can lead to extreme and varied effects such as dramatically slowed reaction times, visual distortion, inability to judge speeds and distances, and risk taking.

That is not a very well-presented opinion. I don't think "trucks fall off the road" coz their drivers are all wasted, and if it is, then lets see some references. Trucks are reasonably complex pieces of equipment to move at speed, and it is quite easy to put them into the "no going back" part of the curve, where there is, ahh, no going back, and off the road you go!

With regard to alcohol vs weed ; I find alcohol really incapacitating. It is extremely difficult to even keep my eyes focused on the road, let alone stay on task. It's fucking stupid riding pissed. Weed on the other hand is real eye opener. It is abundantly clear to the stoned rider to not be an ass, and it is also abundantly clear that if they DO come off, its going to fucking HURT REAL BAD, and if they are PLENTY stoned, it is unlikely they will even have the balls to get out of that give way sign, hehehe.
