    well said Tank....

A patch that needs to be "earned"....... what a load of ******

All the people with "hog" patches earned their money to buy their bikes.....
They all work and pay tax.
Oh and I love the weekly runs..... a whole heap of Harleys thundering through the countryside....
And no they are not hanging around either...

And I love the wednesday evening rides, thursday nanarides, any sort of ride realy....
I will go on Any ride, anywhere anytime, except with lowlives that have to "earn" their patch.....I am honest, and proud of it.

Get badges from rallies, seen identical shirts from various clubs, hell I even get shirts from work with their "logo"....
When does a logo become a patch?

In your world that might be so and I respect your look at things. Sadly the same is happening in the MC world as anywhere else, that the minority who are doing the shit are the ones who get the headlight.

But look at it this way: Where you have to earn the right to be part of that club the rest of the members will know you and be able to trust you. And that includes your riding abilities. I am always very reluctant to ride in a big group with riders I have no idea of who they are or how they ride. I will therefore always ride last when with some riders I don't know.

In a HOG scenario there is often a big group of riders and many of them have resently bought a new shiny toy. The only requirement to be part of that group is to own the HD and have the HOG emblem on you. Suddenly you are part of the brotherhood and ride at 120k/h+ on 400Kg of steel. And the only thing you had to do is to buy your self in.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

    You are completey right conquiztador.....
If you ever see the Christchurch "HOG" gaggle thundering by.....I am the one at the end......

As far as riding skills go.... that is indeed a trust that needs to be earned..and even then, shit always can happen.
I don't trust anybody with my life as much as I trust mysef .

It is the "club" /gangmembers that "earn" their patches , and threaten to rip of "Ulysses" patches that get my blood going a bit...

I fully realise that every club has membership criterea.....
which is perfectly acceptable ,as long as those criterea are not detrimental to others.....

I would have to wonder as too why they feel so threatened by a group of 'older enthusiasts' that would probably have more members than themselves that are not there to take over their turf or bust in on their illicit money earnings?

While it would be nice to believe that club have criteria that is not detrimental to others it is sadly not too be. Many clubs will gladly put down other clubs in any form they feel required so that they can make themselves feel bigger and better in their self inflated egotistical worlds

The worst things about clubs, from the local pigeon fanciers to the bowling club, to a bike club, are the self-important arseholes who have no sense of the whole fish / pond perspective thing. So you’re ‘on the committee’? You’re a ‘life member’? You’re the ‘road captain’? Who gives a fuck y'dick...

    I couldn't agree more

Seems to be a small minded short persons way of feeling important
I love it when you go to the 'club meeting' and there's a chairman, secretary and scribe who takes minutes - and the chairman has a little hammer in his hand to keep things on track - it was the local tennis club in a small town I lived in for a while - ITS ONLY BLOODY TENNIS
Lifes Just one big ride - buckle up or hang on
