    My DR650 died today.

Was headed off to a welly ride out over on the wainuiomata
coast, but we never made it.

    the engine just stoped dead.
didnt lock up or make any nasty banging noises.
it got picked up on my ute from petone this morning.

will keep posted as to what has happened and why...

No chinkle chinkle noises as it died either?
Mine just sounded a bit like the chain dropping off the rear as the engine went quiet. No lock up or banging noises here either.
Take it you've read Nordies info on 3rd gear exploding.
Very interested to know more as it's diagnosed.

Rotten luck mate. Hopefully it is just a simple electrical issue like my XF650 used to have.

The battery terminals were a little dodgy and needed a clean and a tighten every few months to stop the bike from doing what you just described.

im thinking is a bit more, we put it in first gear and you can push it like its out of gear.
but can hear the piston going up and down.

So there's no compression? My brother-in-law's dirt bike did that, ridden too hard it had burnt a hole through the piston crown.

    Hey Joe
If you need another piston you can have my spare big bore version.
New rings, a buff with a wire brush & all will be sweet. You might need a thicker head gasket though.

Seriously though, at least you have a warrenty & lets hope that doesn't become an issue either.
    Good luck.

PS: Can you guess what the piston is out of?
