My dad pillioned my 1 year old niece. She was sitting on the gas tank between his legs and arms wither side so very hard to fall off.

Smiling the whole time, definatly gonna be a biker chick.

Not that I'm aware of. I believe the criteria is that they are able to support themselves and be able to hang on.

I remember years ago taking my son when he was really young on my bike. He loved it but I had him sitting in front with a long belt around him in case I had to brake hard.

We passed cops back then and they didn't seem to mind or notice. Might be different now.

No. Pillions have to wear a secure fitting helmet and their feet have to reach the pegs.

In light of Hitcher's post I should mention my dad was riding in the states at the time on our old driveway.

In addition to Hitcher's comment I would add that I personally would be reluctant to pillion anyone over the age of 100 years.

hitchers got it...feet have to reach the pegs.
but then, like others have said, there is always the old on the tank trick! ive got photos of me sitting on the tank of dads bike...old red open faced lid thats about 10 sizes too big on my head, lmfao. dad used to come home and take us around the yard..me on the front, other kid on the back....other kid once put his leg on the exhaust...no nice so im told [wasnt around then]

i spose if you have a backrest and some bungy cords, something could be rigged up!

Passed an XTnnn Yammy t'other day on SH16, with a wee bairn in a special seat on the back. Couldn't see how the seat was attached, but it looked like those ones y'see on bicycles. Bairn looked maybe 2 or 3 years , but I'm no judge of 'em.

Seemed OK to me, appeared solidly enough attached, and the wee 'un was strapped in somehow.

Tootling along at a respectable rate, still manged a wave in return. Presume the rider was a chick.

    helmets

was pondering this tonight. Moral obligations aside, who is responsible (eg liable) for the pillion wearing a helmet - The rider, or the pillion?

And if its the pillion is it age dependant (over 14?) like with seat belts?

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

....and old enough and tall enough to take in and follow instructions.

Fark - Not sure on age limits or accountability but if youre pillion isnt wearing a helmet you should both have your assess kicked.

In that case they can't take pillions of any age.

good point. my instructions likely would be "sit down, hang on and shut the hell up!" LOL.
