As an 05 owner the suspension is firmer than the competition so it works better the faster you go, most owners fit a damper. It turns in really really quickly, its FAST and it lifts the front easily under power if you swing on the throttle in low gears or hit sizable bumps. The competition has softer suspension and usually has a damper fitted from stock so its easier to ride from new i.e. so they take less time to get used to. However after reading all about them I couldn't believe how easy to ride mine was when I went for a test. Your granny could drive it if she didn't swing on the throttle.
    Try this

    and this

For what its worth I had my suspension revalved/stacked front/rear for less than the cost of a damper, I’m not convinced I need one.

TTG - where did you take your bike to get revalved? and was it using the standard stuff, or aftermarket stuff? and how much?
askin cos I'm gonna go thru the same stuff, and I'm sure some others would be interested too..

get the set up right, and you'd out-do most people who haven't touched theirs.. regardless of bike

I don't know shit about riding them but I do know the '06 has a shorter chassis than the '05. From another rider they're less twitchy than the '05 and the power is slightly smoother (supposedly).
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

ZX10Rs are kind Mad as in Mad Dog with kitten Mad
F**ken good fun,the recall for the front wheel was done early
mine had the mains and big end engine bearing done but it was
a early model (had a strange noise, sounded like clutch rattle)
efectively blue printed, goes like stink now, I dont have a damper
but have learnt to live with it!
even with all its bad habbits out of three bikes i own
its still the most fun , but watch out for first gear wheel stands
(if the wheel just skims the ground it gives it a big head shake if you dont stand it right up)
    9/10 for fun
I think i ride faster on my 750 though as it does not keep trying to swap ends
    all the time
the art of diplomacy is saying nice doggie,
until you find a big rock

After market valves with a different size shimstack in the front and decreased the number of shims in the rear. Matt (Mt Eden) seemed to think there were less shims in the 04 shock than the 05 so there are subtle differences. Was bout $600 total including labour.

As you said, set up is everything so it makes sense to sort the suspension on any bike. Look at the power to weight ratio of any modern sportsbike, add the weight of the rider and its not surprising that you need to make things a little more individual. Certainly makes riding a lot more fun

You still of the same opinion Timetogo?
Im (buying a 04 zx10 &) thinking of not fitting a damper and just letting shaun set it up without one...
