16 valve head, fly by wire throttle, 6 pot front brakes, slipper clutch and variable length intake system. The exhaust is Euro 3 compliant and there have been some other small engine and chassis changes as well.

Wonder how it will go against the new Suzuki?

and look how many valves it has
Instead of five 23.5mm intake valves, the new R1 uses four 31mm poppets (largest in class), and are now made of lightweight titanium.
So lets start the math. 4 31 mm intake valves.

Its pair of 25mm steel exhaust valves is similar in size to last year.
And two exhaust valves gives a grand total of 6 valves . They must like the number 6.

pt I know the report is fucked up so what can you take fromthe rest of it

    Hi.
The Yamaha US web site has all the details on all the Yamaha 07 models. R6 seems unchanged but yes the R1 has had a bit of a major rework.

Computer is prob a simple micro not that trick, coupled to a simple actuator a few dollars of parts

To be honest I am suprised that more things like this havent been used more in vehicles. As the latest SB mag has an article on the guy chaging the velocity stacks on his bike for better performance, effectivaly changing the length of the trumpets, and it gave very good results.

Didn't MV put variable length intake trumpets on one of their limited edition F4 1000s? Yamaha seem to have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at the R1 this year. It'll be interesting to see if it all works to make a top bike - I suspect it'll still be playing 2nd fiddle to the Suzi.

It looks a bit chunky - but I thought that of the 06 Gixxer thou' too.
In the same way, I think it will look better in the flesh.
I think the '05/'06 R1 is a classic though (so tastefully well-formed, almost Italian-like styling). It will always be the 'one' for me
    Keep it rubber-side down...

Not quite as brutal as the 998 to 999 shift though!

the team has an R6 engine in a open wheeler that is dry sumped and supercharged. We are raping it and it is still going strong after a year. Yamaha engines are amazing.
