Why would you change gear at the redline?

If maximum acceleration is the goal, wouldn't it make more sense to change gear shortly after you've gone past the engine's maximum torque point?

Not necessarily, especially on a peaky bike like an NSR, where the power in the over-run range (which is small anyway) is higher than that the power in the range that you'd be in when you shifted up.

    250's

    ZXR250A < CBR250RR (MC22) < ZXR250C

that was on a ride with my mates, though i am about 15-20kg heavier than them.

That was full throttle from 100kmh to max speed on a straight (private road )

Not seen ZXR250C vs CBR250RR in a 400m drag, but from the comparison of Texmo and vtec in streetstock racing the CBR is a tad faster, but that is most likely due to vtec's 25kg weight advantage.

That late model FZR250RR (not sure on year or model designation but im thinking its 1993) is apparently the most powerful 250, but there arent many in NZ, was supposedly out to 48-50hp at crank, but that may just be a load of ass, i've never seen one though so i wouldnt know.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

One of the other vids by those dudes on YouTube had a 250 doing 0-100 with an 80kg rider and again with a 50kg rider.

    50kg: 8 secs
    80kg: 9.6 secs

Take from that what you will.

Yea or if you have to engine brake soon after it get's kinda clunky.

good point,on sucha light bike with not the most torque or horse, rider weight does go a long way in speed variation, im fairly light and my mate is close to 100kg but on a faster bike,id say id probably win a 0-100km
I lost my licence and i havent riddin all month!!!- YEAH RIGHT

No. In fact its often faster to shift after the maximum power point. It depends on the gearing and the engine. It's all about torque at the wheels.

NSRs are not peaky. Almost linear power delivery.

ill trust what you say since you own one but linear power on a 2stroke?? isnt it all about having a powerband?

Yes, this is were the advent of powervalves come in, they restrict exhaust flow at lower RPM giving you more torque; essentially emulating a smaller exhaust port.

The NSR has an exceptionally good system, hence a virtually linear power delivery.
