What have you done for your bike this weekend?

got a new front tyre for the gpx
got some new grips for the vfr
bought new bar end weight for the vfr

also did some other minor adjustments to the vfr, shifted the clutch lever up slightly so that it doesn't hit the speedo when turned hard to the right now, tightened up all the bolts around the speedo to stop it vibrating so much, um yeah thats about it just waiting to get the repainted panels for the vfr back, also need to get down there, hopefully this friday and change the fork seals, which i can see as being a bitch of a job as i've never done it before

The motorcycle Gods were shining on Manfeild on Saturday so I took the Repsol out and gave it a good seeing to. Now I will need a new rear tyre soon.

Thrashed the living breath out of the poor thing running it to Rotorua and back in the cr@ppy weather!

Hubby's bike got the same!

fitted up my frame sliders
thrashed it to Akaroa and back on Saturday.
mourned that my new suspension isnt here yet.

Washed them both, cleaned and lubed the chains. The Duc had/has some really sticky substance on the chain that degreaser/brush won't move. gave up on that one.

Swapped the front pads round on the VTR as they wear more on the outside (I think). Now they're binding, so there coming off again tonight for a proper clean.

Reglued my heated grips. Throttle mechanism now needs cleaning out.

All in all, not a very successful weekend for maintanence.

Put some decent front pads in, and got the rear brake light switch working.

Beware, I found that the EBC sintered pads don't like the wet on my VTR. Make sure you keep drying them out when it rains or they ain't gonna work when you need them.

First oil and filter change! Went pretty sweetly, a lot easier than doing the car eh. Pity it costs the same though, ($12 filter and $45 for Castrol Active)

Stuffed bike into a gorse bush, major humiliation due to spectators, face planted in two mud holes (not as many spectators) and low sided on the gravel (no spectators but hurts more than the others).
New front brake lever (thanks people at riverhead forest)
Bent rear brake lever (must fix tomorrow)
Realigned forks twice.
Thanks to the many assistants that dug me out from underneath the bike.

Must learn to ride off road before doing another adventure ride.


I will clean the bike tomorrow...its blended into the undergrowth out back of the garage somewhere.

20w50, thats some heavy oil you got there, are you sure your bike can run on full synthetic?

good good. I was hoping someone would comment. It's a 1998. I'm a bit of a noob to bikes so basically went to Wgtn Motorcycles and said "what do I use?" and the Castrol Active is what I got handed.

I'm pretty sure that this oil is mineral tho (havn;'t got the pack handy)

Saturday, cleaned n lubed the chain, gave the bike a quick wash. Then did a quick blast around the bays with a mate, his bike popped it's lolly chasing me up gebbies, stashed the bike at a farm, dubbed him back to town via Motukarara/Taitapu. He picked the bike up on Sunday. Went back into town on Monday hauled the motor out of the bike & cracked the cases to see what the damage was collapsed bearing.

Didn't go via the bays? HDC. A Hornet tailed me through Allendale to the Wheatsheaf Corner

thrashed it to Akaroa and back on Saturday.

BUT MONDAY---------Drove to Mangawhai at sparrows fart --in the pouring rain.
Unloaded a couple of kid sized trailies--
Then sat and watched as 3 kids rode round and round and round and--Ohh you get the picture
For the record -a peewee50 runs continuously for 3 hours on $2.00 worth of petrol
But by gosh the grins on their faces were just so good to see

Just secured the engine bits I need to make her go again, so I am pretty excited.

Checked the oil,water,tyres,lubed the chain and went for a 500 km spin coast to coast on Sunday. (only 30 kms of rain )
The TL is 8 years old now but once bought up to spec is fairly easy to maintain with more major strip downs depending how and what it has been ridden in winter wise.
I am waiting for a break in the weather to do a Cape and back but might be dreaming on how long that might take.

yeah should be fine, use a lighter weight oil in winter tho
