Yep, you're onto it. Thanks for the suggestion, that may be the road I have to take, but the job will be beyond my electrical repair capabilities. Can you recommend somebody to carry out this task?

    Bit of an update.

I've had two tyres fitted. Decided in the end to go the budget route and fitted the front Hi Max from the CB250T I wrecked a while back, almost new. The rear is a Shenko I got from Manawatu M/Cs. While I was nattering to Paul he mentioned he may have a main stand for a CX. Lo and behold it was there. Made my day it did.

Skinned a finger trying to get the end of the spring over the retaining tang before I clicked on to the simple, read obvious, way of getting it mounted with little effort what so ever.

I'll pick up a new set of brake shoes next payday as they are getting low.

I'll let you all know how the Shenko fares with the wopping 50 odd ponies on board. This is a different to the one I had on the cb550, more rounded in shape.

Edit- Oh and a gent mentioned it sounds like a ducati, "Nah mate" I says " It's shitty ol '78 CX" . He grinned from ear to ear and rushed out to have a gander.

    Hey... nuff of the ol
cant argue with that link I just remember the figger being 48hp, and IIRC that was from the 1st shadow onwards, that being the 1980A shadow.
The shadow name came about as the 1st shadow in 1980 was 'black' because the Vincent black shadow was a v2 so Honda thought it appropriate to name the 1st black CX a shadow and give it 5hp more.
All shadows and B modles (81-) from then on were 48/50hp and from the B shadow on they became red and blue aswell.

ps: looking at a 2 wheels write up... says 27.pKW rear wheel, shit thats SFA
    cheers DD

Honda called a LOT of things Shadow, still do. It wasn't just the CX, and sometimes only in specific markets. As far as I'm aware all 10.1 compression ratio 500 engines had the same output.

Bugger,Had just about talked myself out of the idea, now all these posts have got me thinking about it again.Seem to have solved the front brake problem on my Gn250,the dealer cut grooves accross the pads to help get the dust out, seems to have stopped the squeek, and I am trying to use the brakes more to wear the pads in.All my ride is on the open road,52 klm a day to work and back,so normally hardly use the brakes at all.

PROJECT UPDATE - Just in case anyone was wondering. Have managed to find the correct starter switch on ebay, so am waiting on its arrival (most of this project has been spent waiting on parts). I reckon I have spent more time hunting down the parts than actually working on the bike. Anyway I managed to wire in a kill switch (without blowing any expensive electronics) and started her up for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Easy start and she sounded BLOODY BEAUTIFUL!! Carbs leaked from orings at feeder pipe, so renewed, refitted and that problem was solved.
Couldn't resist it last week after refitting carbs and took her for the first spin with a few wires still dangling. I agree that these things are not racers, but very comfy and smooth. I am going to enjoy riding this old girl!
Tank, side covers and rear cowl are now off being painted, so am hoping to be on the road in December. Will post a photo when she is back together.
BTW - Sold the Mk4 a while ago Dangerous - still not quite over it.

I just saw one down the road at steptoe & sons front lawn, tank was a little bit rusty and the factory exhausts were just empty canisters. If anyone want me to enquire about it drop me a pm. looks like it been unused for quite some time.

    Shadow
I knew there was a pic somewhere..... 1983 and a mate on his then brand new CX500 Shadow..$4200 out the door from Forbes and Davies.

On a ride with McJim and GIJoe the other week and the first thing noticed pulling into the Kaiaua chip shop was a excellent condition Red 82 CX500 which turned out to be one owner and still used regularly.
