At grear personal sacrifice and in the interests of all KB'rs intending to go on this trip (yeah yeah cut the crap) - I rode up yesterday and Stayed with Oldrider at otematata and we went and had a look at the Shearers Quarter and the other place. I took lots of pics which I'll put on the poll post shortly.
We would have a great night at these quarters. they're not modern but they have everthing we need. John only lives about 6km away and reckons if we stay there he'd bring a load of booze etc out for us on the back of his wee truck. Theres a BBQ and OK kitchen there so as long as people bring enough to live on for Sat night plus breakfast we'll be fine. There is a social room, plenty of good bunkrooms with beds and mattresses (need sleeping bags).
The site is about 150 metres from the edge of the Lake (Aviemore) and about 200m off the road down an easy driveway that even sports bike riders will manage. The complex is in a U shape with plenty of space in the middle of the U to park the bikes which will keep them safe and away from prying eyes.
The other place, which John will put some photos up on, is really good for $30 per person plus whatever you spend on the meals.

I might be keen on this one, so long as it's not the same weekend as the one down in invercargill

The Invers Bert Munro thing is about two weekends earlier -same weekend as Magpie Madness at Winchester.

There's also the Long Drop Rally at Enfield (near Oamaru) the weekend prior to this KB get-together ride to Mt Cook.

The long Drop is usually held at Duntroon domain,(Highway 83)

Haven't heard of any change of location! I will check! John.

That'll be good John, never been there before, got that weekend off so thought I might have a look
Heard only about 300 went last year so it must be a small rally.

Yes, Duntroon Domain, 35km inland from Oamaru on SH38. (Opposite the Duntroon Pub)

Friday 1st, Sat 2nd, Sun 3rd December 2006. C'mon up SD and make it 302! See you there. Cheers John.

Its the same weekend as th BRONZ Otago toy run but a lot of their members apparently usually go to this rally, ride down for the toy run and then go back. This year someone has scheduled their Christmas do for that weekend as well - if Iwas making a choice I'd go to the rally, but unfortunately I won't be there. I do hope to duck in and do the toy run thing though.

KB venture bike riders going to the Southern KB ride in at Otematata have a look at my thread on the venture bike forum. John.
