TL1000s has a better engine, with fuel injection, though the suspension was supposedly harsh and left a bit to be desired.
The VTR was softer in the power delivery, more upright riding position and more road orientated suspension which many thought made it easier to ride on the road.... Had carbs and a small tank which limited range...

Ive had both so far. Get a TLS! They both have problems, like any bike, but the TLS is, overall a better bike.

If you are looking at buying, I reckon there's only one way to tell which one would best fit your needs. Ride them both. And anything else that looks like it would be a good candidate.

Mate of mine just went through this. He had a tls, wrote it off.

Dispite owning a tls he liked the vtr and slmost bought one, but in the end bought a new SV. Loves it, can't stop grinning so far.

Got a great deal from the Masterton Suzi dealer.

Welcome to the site. I've always figured that Bruce Lee would beat Mohamed Ali in a fight.

Yes true. If you are most interested in 'fast' and 'big jappa twin' then the SP1 or the SP2 is something to consider. But more expensive than a TL or a the run-of-the-mill VTR.

As has been said ride them both then decide....i would obviously vote for the TLS as i have one but ive met plenty of very happy VTR owners...there both good all rounders really...ive toured all over on mine quite happily and its good for having a bit of fun in the twistys with....have ridden an SP1 and decided as fun as it would be i wouldnt like to spend two or three days solid on one....
