With the proposed changes to laws in the Tasman District Council area, we riders will be forced out of existence. They are trying to put a bill thru meaning no more than four motorbikes can be ridden on private land at any given time, and must stick to strict times, and noise levels.

One of our two major forests sounds like it's going to be shut down this summer, the others may very well buckle under the pressure, and follow suit.

If this kind of nonsense legislation is going to be the norm, I am seriously considering moving to Blenheim. The greenies, and tree huggers abusing their positions by speaking out publicly, and directly abusing their privelage of office, to wheelbarrow their own opinions and agendas. This will cause a hugely detrimental effect on Nelson, if they succeed in passing laws like this, and by the time they realise they have messed up, it will be too late, people like me will be gone.

The greenies are peddling it from a forest and bird angle, not a noise one, so if they succeed in locking the bikes out, they will have to do the recreational 4wd'ers, and rallyers, and every other gravel related sport, and that will cause a HUGE ruckus in a town where every second vehicle is a muddy 4wd.

If they charge entry then they are taking responsibility for anything that happens.
As soon as you charge entry then you invite a whole heap of problems.

Now "donations" on the other hand

Cracks me up how people move near a race track or airport or move into the city apartments and THEN start complaining about noise. How thick and self centred and stuck-up can you get???!!

It would be impossible to go to war.... we have no real defence forces left... and the teens today couldn't be conscripted becasue so many are on drugs or just too self-centred to do anything for anyone but themselves.

The whole nature of complaining about the noise etc is symptomatic of how unfriendly and un-neighbourly we have become.

Its crap... I need another beer.

I'm f***ed of about the lack of places to ride.

Did you guys hear what happened to the Woodhill bike park?

The trees in the park are being felled. The park was supposed to move a few km's down rimmer road, but this had to be stopped because of some f'ing moaning barstard, several K's away. Now we have a bike park that is partly closed off for tree felling, pretty soon the whole park may close, but will definately in time become a "tree stump" park.
This is just plain shit. I'm not into motorcross, and it's just about the only place to trail ride legally nr auckland.

I've never ridden illegally, but now i'm considering doing it....

Old thread, but just came across this. I was riding that land back in the 80's, before the houses arrived. We had some awesome jumps there back then, even some table tops and we used to head out there after work for a ride. It was an awesome place to ride and sometimes a bit of a circuit would develop and unofficial racing would take place. You could actually ride from Waiarau road through to Albany center all on dirt. So the bikes were there first. Yeah its not a fair argument and I would not want dirt bikes roaring around my house either and I don't think they should be. But just wanted to point out that the bikes were there first before your house.
We even used to ride a small track at View road between some factorys. Awesome jumps there, one had a steel plate on it and launched you straight up like a free style ramp. Even during the week when all the factorys were open, no one cared and the workers used to come out and watch.
Luckens road was another good place to race your mates in the evenings after work. In fact we just used to get on our road trailies and head off to all these different tracks and trails. Broken house was another which is north of Oteha. Tracks all over the place.
Chatswood which was on my door step provided all weekend and evening riding with the guys and jumps and some bush trails too.
The 80's were great for dirt bike riding.
And all of Woodhill forest was open for riding as well.

yeah i have my own land to ride on, but I am also considerate to neighbours. eg I only ride at certain times (5pm - 6pm) and dont ride for over 45 minutes. problem is for most people is that they ride hard for extended periods of time..that really fucks the neighbours off.
