Sell roughly one per week Good allround, reliable package straight out of the crate. Slightly strangled performance, weak front fork seals, and average chain & sprockets as stock items.

Buy new run it in, expect a blown fork seal (usually R/H stanchion 1st)replace both seals, service onto synthetic oil, ditch the airbox cover & fit a decent filter, fit an aftermarket muffler, tension spokes, fit decent chain & sprockets, dial in the suspension.

    And go have a ball

P.S keep an eye on the kickstart & gear levers, they loosen off initially & can go awol if not checked.

    Cheers for your advice!

I am a little concered about the fork seals issue, Cowpoos seems to have had this happen alot, does going to aftermarket seals fix the problem? If Kawasaki know about this issue, are they doing anything to fix it?

The stock item fork seals are crap!. As a percentage, 60% at least of the new KLXs we sell come back for the 1st service with a blown fork seal it's common and isn't confined to harder riders, just like the chains We replace them with better quality items, flush & change the oil, set the oil level & hardly have any return with the same issues.

9 replacements under warrenty they must love you

Only the KDX comes close for value for money

    Backflips, supermans, double backflips...

BS aside, just a bit of trail riding and get a little air but nothing extreme enough that warrants spending $10k on a high maintenance MX bike. Probably do most of my riding at Thunderpark valley and Woodhill.

Not sure sorry The notification leaflet arrived at work a couple of weeks ago from Lyntech, I read it took note of the date etc but can't remember the price. It isn't going to be much more than the KX450 though.
I'll check at work tomorrow & let you know

Still pisses me off that Kawasaki NZ refuses to sell the 250 here. Considering our learner laws and the lack of quality new DS 250's it'd be as popular here as it is in Aus and US. Add to that the fact that you can drop in the 300 kit (Kwaka Aus was giving away the 300 kit with all 250's sold for a while there).

There's a 115-odd page thread on Advrider.com forums on the 250. Damn easy bike to tweak a bit more power out of.

The GasGas' seem to be selling damn well at the moment. Linton @ DAS has had to sell his personal bike twice in the past month because a customers wanted one and they've run out. They had a couple of 6 day machines when I was last visting, both had already been snapped up.

Have you considered something road legal (saves trailering)? The DT230 is a good machine.

My dad has one, was riding it the other day on the beach makes about the same power as my 125, but a lot more ridable then mine.
He has never had to change the fork seals yet and he has had it for 3 years still on the same chain and sprockets from factory.
He does just trail rides on it and has racked up alot of kays on it,
hard to start if you fall off or stall the bike, but other then that a realy cheap bike i think about 7.5 grand new or the 6.9 grand for the KDX.
The only thing that went wrong was the stearing head bearing, kacked out on it, water just goes straight in from the top, he replaced it and pluged up the top with some silycone and a bung

I got mine 6 weeks back, so far it's real nice, really good hill climber, nice torque. A bit rough to start as Buddy said after a stall/fall, the dealer reckons try absolutely no throttle, so next time I'll try that. I did the Purua Trail Ride weekend before last, two loops @ 30+km each, without a hassle (I'm 40 ) & I had not really ridden for 10 years, the handling ( I find anyway ), is pretty neutral & any issues I'd be wary of commenting on as it's likely rider technique , it jumps real nice & doesn't do anything nasty, which is good given I'd never really jumped before a few weekends back .

Back to T.W.R.'s comments, what forks seals/air filter do you recommend & would removing the air box lid be an issue in wet conditions ? ( Northland has been known to experience rain ), I'm thinking a 3rd party muffler once I start ringing it hard, so far, it's better than me .

One last thing, I got some pretty rough headshake opening it up on 90 mile beach, I guess past 80kph or so, not sure if that's normal, I was going to ask at the first service.
