    Clutch foot lever fell off!

What an end to a day.

Riding back to Wton from Porirua, 5th the whole way. While exiting the motorway I went to change down and my left foot finds nothing.

The clutch foot lever thing (what's it's technical name?) fell off some time on the motorway. Luckily had my tools there, could change the gear with the pliers (making sure as to not damage the thread too much).

So rode home from town in 2nd the whole time. And off to my other job... in 2nd...

Getting another one tomorrow. Moral of the story?

I think you'll find it's called a gear lever. The clutch it that thing in front of your left hand. It's a lot like the one on the right except it's easier to pull in. This is normal so don't try to get it fixed.

Mental note: tighten the bolt on my gear lever.

I feel so much smarter with the correct terminology. Cheers Finn.

The things on the end of the shaft are splines, too, not threads. More terminology.

I'd also check the not-go-so-fast-foot-thingy on the other side ... you really don't want *that* one to fall off

Gawd, scaaaaary lack of knowledge here..............

I'm not sure what's worse: that a rider doesn't know what basic controls are called or do....or that they are going to attempt to maintain a complicated piece of machinery. (Hmmm, those silver discs inside the wheel are a bit rusty, maybe a bit of CRC would help....)

I was desperately looking for the P/T sig but alas and alack none was found....

Unless you ride a Ducati in which case the reverse applies. Oh yeah, don't attempt to have this fixed either.....

I approve of the name "clutch foot lever". It has a nice technical sound to it.
If you don't know the name of things, make something up. I once refered to a CD drive as "the disky thing" to my IT lecturer.

He knows what it is and how to use it, just not the proper name for it. That's not scary.
