Just as some prefer to ride at 160km every where others prefer to cruise at 120. SO WHAT!!!! Would be a pretty sad world if every body drank same liquid, rode same bikes and all rode at 80km. Every one is entitled to their personal preference and opinions. I PREFER Harleys as I like the way they handle and I feel one with my bike. BUT i also have a Suzuki that i enjoy as well. Im not staunch about my bikes at all. Im not an image person, dont give a shit what others think. I just enjoy my rides and being in company of people who arent image controlled. Sorry to bleat on but aftert two hours reading people rubbish others bikes my nerves were getting frayed. Each to their own I suppose.
Back to the orginal post. I haven't found much slagging of bikes in this forum and on the kiwibiker events/rides I have been on that hasn't occurred. My experience is the opposite with most showing a genuine interest in the merits of other bikes. I would like to own a few different bikes, including a cruiser and an adventure bike. Different tools are required for different jobs.

When I thought about returning to motorcycling I joined this forum and posted some fairly inane questions to which I got a lot of really good answers that helped me in the decisions I was making. Sure there is some crap posted here but a lot is in jest.

Get out on a few rides to meet those who post here and your view may change. Don't be like me and take it too seriously
    Here for the ride.

I like Burbon and Beer (and whisky), I like Harley's and Yamaha's (or I wished I rode either!).

    Good Call.

Totally agree!,surely it is just about riding bikes, big ones, small ones, modern ones or better still, old ones. Why are there so many narrow minded, biased people who cant see further than their own plastic packaged sports bike?

Well, look at it this way.- How many of you didn't start out on a jap bike? Theres not too many who can say they haven't been on a jappa at some stage. If you want to do the right thing with getting your licence you need a jappa. Who cares what you ride as long as you are out there doing it.

    Agreed.

Met a nice chap at Sels who owns a HD sporter. He'd owned a GB400 a while back. Said he regretted selling it. So there's the odd HD rider out there with some sence

It's interesting. I was looking at the bikes at the classic racing. Comparing the lean, small, classics, singles, Meridan Triumphs, BSAs Enfields, with the modern big , bulbous bloated designs. The old 'uns looked like greyhounds , compared with St Bernards.

But, the only modern bikes that had the lean lithe look of the old ones were the HD sportsters (the Buells are lean too, but in a different way, more like off roaders) .

Dunno what that implies. But maybe the nearest thing you could buy new to a GB500 would be a HD Sportster ?

Aren't Sporters considered not the be REAL Harleys by some in the HD riding faternity? A girls bike?

May explain why Scumdog can't sell his...........

In my opion standard Sporster tanks are far to small for serious playing, whereas a GB500 has a 300 plus fuel range.

Sporties are a good base for customisation though I'd imagine.

Bit of Sporty history here- http://www.sportster.org/history/

PS: No I don't give a shit what anyone rides.
