They're a hard case thing to ride.
You have to start them in neutral as they're a non-primary kick and pulling in the clutch disengages the kickstart drive !!
Then the gear box is 4-down with neutral at the top and what seems to be a neutral between every gear so changing gear is done sloooowwwly.
The front and rear suspension seems to have no damping whatsover so she's bouncy as heck.
Full of character !!
How could I even think I was thinking of getting rid of it...shame on me !

My restoration project, once I've finished doing up the DR-250S, is going to be "Uma", my 1963 Yamaha YG-1. As parts are virtually non-existent nowadays, I'm going to transform her into a period sporty YG, ie flat bars, single seat which leather is domed etc sort of like Suzuki did with the K11 (as pictured here), forerunner to the A100 or I think B120, but keep all of the original equipment.
She'll be an awesome weapon then
Like this YGS-1 ? I had a YL1 at the time.

You will have to let me know how you go as my Mum has hers in the garage still. Been locked away for 25 year so far! I think it only has 1600km so far! I know it goes as I took it for a spin a few years back. I agree with the fun bouncy ride!
Maybe I should try and fix her up??
Need something to do when not riding??? Come and learn to dance with us at www.cerocstars.co.nz
Just like it, but with the low exhaust.
Also had a couple of YL-1's before, great bikes !!

We have a good painter in our fraternity who can do good cheap paintjobs to give her a new lease of life, plus, I know a thing or two about polishing....
If/when she gets restored, can I register Uma under the classic rego (the 40 year old + ) one?
