If you're heading for cruiserdom and definitely want that comfy pillion perch, it is hard to beat the Valkyrie. Most cruisers have anal floss for a rear seat and you'd need an aftermarket seat to make the wife happy. The Valkyrie's engine is an absolute peach and people turn around looking for a Porsche only to see some desperate Dan with his Bitch on the back of a rolling chrome-fest with real performance.

I've pillioned on a VS1400 and I think it's called an Intruder because of what that seat does to the pillion after an hour.

Thanks Edbear, I was serious re the Intruders suitability as a pillion machine (ie not just because I am interested in buying it). I now have a Honda 900 Hornet and although the std seat is a little 'sharp' it is a far better 2-up machine than the Intruder ever was or could be, from both rider and pillion perpectives and a sheepskin makes it even better. I may hear from you or your buddy.......

It's funny you should say that. There's an Intruder parked near my workplace, and every time I go past it, I'm tempted to right "ANAL" above the tank badge.

    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Thanks for the feedback, Jim2. The Intruder wasn't my first thought either, as I was concerned about the pillion comfort, hence the need to ride one first. I agree about the Valkyrie! I love them, but not sure about the dollars...

Had an interesting chat to the Bank today, well okay not the Bank itself but our Mortgage manager and turns out we can rearrange things, get a new bike and still pay less than we're currently paying out on the credit card! Why didn't someone ring us and tell us that ages ago? Okay, I know, it pays to keep up with financial matters and ask questions about banking and insurance frequently... Don't ask, don't get!

So the big job now is to test ride a few bikes and see if my initial preferences are correct. Tim, I'll keep in touch with my Bro-in-Law and his mate about the Intruder, he said he'd be ready to sell in about a month or two, all going to plan.

DiscoDan, after thirty years, I don't think she's still under warrranty, so can't send her back! 'Sides, like an old cardy she's got quite comfy over the years...

I'm with Barbender on this one mate and of course I'm biased.

You can have all the comfort two up, loads of torque and man you can still have fun solo.
If the destination is more important than the journey you aint a biker.

Well, when I told her about my chat with the Bank, she seemed quite pleased so maybe I can convince her to try out the GSX1400 before we decide. The current Summerfest promo makes it very attractive, (in more ways than one...)

She made an interesting commment about the Valkyrie on Sunday, she felt her legs were spread a bit too wide...(okay, I'll wait for the smart comments ) Anyone else had experience pillioning on these? Or anyone's experiences pillioning at all would be helpful?

Get a bit fatter mate...... then she will get used to it.
Or you really aint doing 'it' enough.....

Seriously thou, she has gone from sitting on a skinnier bike to going to a wider bike..... after a while she will adjust to that......

Get her into yoga or stretching exercises to limber up the hips..... then she will be fine.

Go for short rides (or if a longer ride have lots of breaks) and that way she will get used to having her legs spread wider than what she is used to.

LOL!!! I'm actually trying to go the other way, I've lost another 2kg and have finally cracked down through the 90kg barrier! That's 8kg off my profile pic! If the Doc's right on and the Specialist gets into gear quick, I'll be getting better real soon, then look out world! (Already she's wondering if she maybe should take something to keep up!)

She's tried out a C90 Boulevard and a Softail as well as the Valkyrie and found the Boulevard the best so far. Going to try the VTX1300 as well, I like the look of it and it was a good riding position to sit on, but of course we're going to have some fun trying out a few bikes.

After seeing yours - Id say that would be "the cruise with my wife in 6th and have a life of my own" bike. Like the ZXR1400 its pretty versatile and has the beastie factor as well.

And VERY NICE they are, but may be stretching the dollars a bit. JUst been offered a deal on a new C50T Boulevard with all the fruit! I like them, too, any adverse comments?

Only one - spokes! Buggers to clean. Love the lines of the C50 especially with all the "fruit", as you say.
